We're thankful to God for the opportunity to come alongside families in the wake of natural disasters like Hurricane Isaias. Helping them in the midst of devastation is a tangible witness of God's love for them and opens doors for us to share the Gospel. Join us in continuing to pray for all those affected in southern Alabama and Florida and for our staff and volunteers helping them get back on their feet. Join us in serving in Jesus' Name at spvolunteer.org #SamaritansPurse #DisasterRelief #InJesusName

For Chris and Barbara Davies, the fury of Hurricane Isaias was followed by deafening, lonely silence. Winds upwards of 100 mph along with driving rains tore apart their neighborhood in Milton, Florida, in a matter of hours. But it was the silent hopelessness afterwards that gripped their hearts. “We heard the trees break; we heard the screams from the wind,” Barbara recounted. She bunkered in the bathroom during the storm as Chris braced his feet against the door to keep it closed. “And then silence. No power. The roads were covered. The poles were down. We were in the dark with nothing. It was quiet and our emotions fell apart.” Things changed when they experienced God’s love through Samaritan’s Purse volunteer teams. Linda Farr is no stranger to Samaritan’s Purse, but she’s typically not on the receiving end of assistance. She has been serving as a cook for our disaster relief teams since 2017. Recently, Linda was helping in Texas at one of our U.S. Rebuild sites when Hurricane Isaias took aim at her hometown in Florida. She returned to utter devastation all around. Pulling into her driveway, she initially couldn’t see much damage, but when she entered her backyard a tangled mass of downed trees created an impassable jungle. Needing to ask for help was a humbling experience. She was amazed when Samaritan's Purse volunteers--some that she has served alongside in the past--pulled up in her driveway and piled out of their trucks, this time to serve her. When she was handed a Bible signed by all the volunteers, the wall of pent up emotions came crashing down and overflowed into gratitude for the organization that has become her second family. “I have to look at the bright side. First, I’m a child of God, second I know Samaritan’s Purse. To be on the other end of it, to have everybody waiting on me and trying to help me out, it's overwhelming,” Linda said. Romans 8:18 came to her mind after the storm, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” We praise God for the opportunity to serve Linda and love on hurting homeowners in Florida and Alabama!

Jesus said, “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.” (Luke 15:4-7)
