Betty Bayo’s daughter, Sky Victor, has publicly expressed disappointment with a court ruling delivered yesterday on the living arrangements for her and her brother. She says the decision went against her wishes and has appealed to Kenyans, people of goodwill, and President William Ruto to help ensure her voice is heard and justice is done.
Sky has stated that she prefers to continue living with her stepfather, Tash Gitau (the husband of her late mother), rather than being placed under the care of her biological father, Prophet Victor Kanyari. According to her, Tash has raised her and her brother well, and she feels safer and more comfortable in his home. She has raised concerns about living with her biological father, alleging that he has made negative public remarks about her late mother and comments about her and her brother that have caused her distress. She further claims that during a previous stay at his home, her phone was taken away, preventing her from contacting her stepfather.
The ongoing court process has taken an emotional toll on Sky, affecting her peace of mind and ability to concentrate in school. She says she had been counting down the days to the judgment in the hope that the court would take her wishes into account, only to be disappointed by the outcome.
In her appeal, Sky has asked Kenyans and other well-wishers to support her and her brother in seeking a resolution that prioritizes their welfare and preferences. She has specifically called on President William Ruto for assistance, saying she wants her concerns to be heard. While acknowledging that the court reportedly directed parties not to discuss the case publicly, she argues that as a minor speaking about her own experiences and those of her brother, she does not want her views to go unheard.
