After previously capturing a Kestrel visiting our Sand Martin Bank @stwater , Minworth on our @ZEISSBirding trail cams, we’ve recorded another hunting attempt.
This time, he struck one of our plastic lures instead of a real bird 🐦

We’ve already ringed 22 chicks, with more nests still to check! After ringing 38 chicks in total last year, we’re on track to beat that record in 2026.

Today l visited Kim & Mirielle McCauls farm in South Kildare. They've built a fab Sand Martin Wall on the banks of a newly created pond with support from Refarm Ireland, an initiative set-up to fund Nature positive actions on Irish farms. It looks amazing! – at Ireland

Sand Martins 'swarming' in the early morning light, and checking out old nesting sites used last year. Many are already starting to open up fresh burrows in the sandy cliff which will hopefully provide safe nest sites for the next generation here at Minsmere! (14th April 2026)

Kudos to Terry Cassidy & all involved at @BirdwatchMeath & @trimtidytowns for constructing this fab nesting wall for Sand Martin. Ideally located close to Trim castle on the banks of the river Boyne the birds more or less moved in straight away. Massive congratulations!

How old this beautiful Oak tree is?
@SandMartinWall grew the tree from an acorn🌱 collected from the oldest Oak tree on his farm, 25 years ago.
At a recent #festivaloffarmlandbiodiversity farm walk we guessed it was much older.
