Syria's new authorities have imposed admissions rules that bar women from most programs at two new state universities focused on defense and security. There is no justification for such blatant discrimination. trib.al/pwXazNe
Huge thanks to @Mohammad_Syria of @SJAC_info for sitting down with me in DC to discuss the implications of rebuilding over Mezzeh airport, a former Assad-era execution site that is being turned into a hub for private jets.
Full video:
Syria is turning Mezzeh military airport, a former Assad-era detention and execution site, into a hub for private jets. Rights groups warn mass graves may lie beneath it.
@SaraHunaidi went to Washington DC, to ask SJAC’s Mohammad Al Abdallah what was found on site, why the UN has stayed silent, and why the companies investing in Mezzeh could still face legal action.
My latest report on the questions behind Syria’s fuel protests.
A 40% overnight jump in diesel sparked Syria's most widespread protests since Assad fell. What came after says even more.
@SarahHunaidi tells us how a week that began with burning tyres ended with some protesters signing pledges in a former secret-police branch — and a minister answering to a parliament no Syrian voted for.
The anniversary of one of the worst massacres in Syria’s history. May the people of Ghouta heal from this, and may no one ever live through this brutality ever again. This is our responsibility.

The organization Syrians for Truth and Justice conducted a study on hate speech in Syria, particularly that of the new regime's main propagandists who accompanied the massacres of the Druze. Their analysis shows that these propagandists fabricated entirely false accounts of massacres of Bedouins, notably during the day of July 17, 2025. It has been established that these narratives were coordinated in order to demonize the Druze and thereby justify the massacres committed against them. Among the most vicious of these narratives was one claiming that a baby had been beheaded by Druze fighters. These narratives, still being shared alongside AI-generated fabricated images, continue to fuel hatred against the Druze and allow the new regime to obscure the crimes against humanity committed against them, despite the publication of a UN report setting the record straight.
Among the propagandists named in the report: Hadi Abdullah. I've already written about him — about his fascist rhetoric and his direct proximity to the Syrian presidency, a proximity that earned him a place in the official delegation to Paris.

The martyrs of the “new Syria.”
Mohammad Ghamira died after four days in a police station. The Interior Ministry banned torture in writing nine months ago. Its investigation found a slap, and blamed his illness.
@SaraHunaidi on the answer Syrians were told they'd never hear again.
The first injustice after Assad fell paved the way for all the others later on. But the world and this interim government’s bootlickers were too busy showering this gov with unconditional love.
His name is Mohammad Ghmeira. Don’t let them bury it with him.
Mohammad Hussam al-Din Ghmeira walked into Haffa police station in Latakia, Syria, over a “routine” money complaint. He left in a coma. Today he left in a coffin.
He was a hemophiliac, his blood doesn’t clot. His family told the officers, and asked them not to beat him. They beat him anyway.
His father, Hussam Ghmeira, died in Ghouta fighting Assad. The son survived Assad, joined @SyriaCivilDef, only to die in the holding cell of a post-Assad Syrian police station.
The uniform changed. The table didn’t. The broken body didn’t. The word “investigation” as a reason to die didn’t.
He entered conscious and in stable health. He came out bleeding, then no speech, then acute brain hemorrhage, then a heart that stopped three times.
A healthy man does not bleed into his skull in custody by accident.
And Ghmeira is not alone. The Syrian Network for Human Rights @snhr documented at least 32 people dead under torture in Syria in 2025, and at least 1,108 arbitrary arrests and detentions across the country in the same year. Different jailers, different flags, same cell, same bruises, same silence afterward.
Seven officers detained. The Interior Minister @Anas_Khattab_sy sent condolences and promised accountability. Syria has heard “an investigation has been opened” for eighteen months, and not one public trial. An investigation with no verdict is a burial for the case, not justice for the dead.
We don’t want condolences. We want the officers’ names, a public courtroom, and an independent autopsy. The men who ran the old dungeons are gone. The dungeons are still full. The new Syria isn’t judged by its statements, it’s judged by whether Mohammad (or any other detainee) can die in a police cell and anyone answers for it.
Guys, walla critical thinking and good research skills are nice. Try it. Highly recommend.

Blindly defending a gov that doesn’t even care about you is peak stupidity. Multiple people were injured. Cross-reference before embarrassing yourself online. & thnx for the classic Assadist line: “U’r in the U.S., bla bla” Do your own research, I won’t do it for you. Practice.

Went dormant here after Musk took over, gutted fact-checking, and turned verification into a paywall instead of an ID check. Back for two days now, and most people coming at me have blue checks but no real names or photos. Is this normal now?
A reminder: all of Syria is still governed by defacto powers. ALL of it. None of them represent anyone but themselves. No one elected them. They took over by force & external powers’ blessings.
We are far from being free. We are free from Assad, thank god, but not really free.
Good morning to everyone, except the thugs in Sweida who forcefully disappear people for speaking the truth about the horrible conditions the province lives in, and dare to ask questions about the empty promises of “Bashan.”
Good morning to everyone, except the Syrian security forces who fire at peaceful protestors in Ain Mneen.
Justice for everyone is slow. It’s the justice system that’s broken, and it’s about time we change that.

Amid tight Israeli restrictions, new remote research is starting to make visible the scale of toxic fallout across Gaza. It could lead to “an epidemic of cancer, lung disease, and brain damage” that might “rival in lethality the war’s bombs and bullets.” trib.al/av5niEz
I used to say the test was Assad. Now the test for both intelligence & moral clarity is HTS after they took Assad’s place. Anyone who used to talk human rights b4 Dec24 & now praises a gov that kills its own people & tries 2 whitewash thr past was never really moral.
