Former Head of MI6 Sir John Sawers, "Russia was very keen that the Leave campaign should succeed and that Britain should leave the European Union"
"Because that would marginalise Britain as a global player and weaken Europe in general"
"That's the strategic opportunity the Russians spotted, and the leaders of the Leave campaign fell into it"
My view: Former MI6 chief Sir John Sawers says Russia saw Brexit as a way to weaken Britain and divide Europe, and that the Leave campaign’s leaders walked straight into the opportunity.
So let’s remember who sold it:
VOTE LEAVE
• Boris Johnson — political figurehead
• Michael Gove and Gisela Stuart — campaign committee co-convenors
• Matthew Elliott — chief executive
• Dominic Cummings — campaign director
• Daniel Hannan — leading Brexit advocate
• Priti Patel, Iain Duncan Smith, Chris Grayling, John Whittingdale and Theresa Villiers — senior Conservative campaigners
• David Davis, Liam Fox, Dominic Raab, Steve Baker and Douglas Carswell — prominent Leave campaigners
LEAVE. EU
• Nigel Farage — leading political figure
• Arron Banks — co-chairman and major funder
• Andy Wigmore — communications director
GRASSROOTS OUT / LABOUR LEAVE
• Peter Bone and Tom Pursglove — Grassroots Out co-founders
• Kate Hoey — Grassroots Out co-founder and Labour Leave campaigner
• Graham Stringer, Kelvin Hopkins and Roger Godsiff — Labour Leave campaigners
• Sammy Wilson — prominent DUP Leave campaigner
They promised Brexit would make Britain stronger.
Sawers says Russia saw the opposite opportunity: a Britain marginalised and a Europe weakened.

So Kemi Badenoch wants to pay for new prison cells by cutting £1bn from culture, media and sport?
That means youth clubs, leisure centres, sports pitches, arts projects and music venues, places that give young people somewhere to go and learn teamwork and self discipline, all of that: gone.
That’s not tough on crime, that’s building a pipeline into the very prisons you're promising! And this from a party that added fewer than 500 prison places in a decade, and left communities like mine fighting to keep leisure centres open in the first place.
Disgraceful.

We took it away from ourselves.

🚨 Mark Carney hits the highest approval rating recorded for a Canadian PM as he pivot towards Europe accelerates.
But in The Times today Gerard Baker dismisses Carney’s middle-powers alliance and advises @andyburnham to grin and bear Trump bc he claims America is the only game in town.
🤢 His prescription for Britain is: “Stick close to daddy”
Canada 🇨🇦 is standing up to Trump’s coercion, reducing its dependence on the US, joining European defence procurement and pursuing the deepest possible economic and security partnership with the EU.
Britain 🇬🇧 is being advised to smile, submit and hope Trump’s successor is nicer.
Carney has presented international cooperation as an assertion of Canadian sovereignty, not its surrender, and Canadians have rewarded him.
Burnham must choose between two models:
🇨🇦 Carney’s confident sovereignty through European and middle-power alliances.
🇬🇧 Baker’s frightened dependency in which Britain remains America’s “largest aircraft carrier”.
Burnham must mirror Carney:
1. Tell the country the world has changed.
2. Remove the Brexit red lines.
3. Stand up to Trump.
4. Rebuild Britain’s European relationship.
5. Turn economic security into a national mission.
“Sticking close to daddy” is vassalage!

So.... £2,485 on glasses for a PM was "sleaze rotting our politics to the core" but £72,000,000 in a single day for Nigel Farage is celebrated as hitting "the jackpot" and a "war chest..."
Whatever is happening here is happening in plain sight. You decide!

All the kids living in B&Bs. All the elderly folks scraping by in abject poverty. All the people wondering how they’re going to pay their rent at the end of the month.
And these two cunts throw £72,000,000 at Nigel Farage instead.
Enraging. Obscene.

Cryptocurrency billionaire Ben Delo says he wants to ensure Reform has a ‘level playing field’ at the polls
This is not ensuring a 'level playing field'. It is the super-rich trying to buy power. It is political corruption and it must be stopped NOW!
Big money political donations subvert democracy. They must be banned and classed as serious criminal offences. Burnham needs to start defending our democracy. He had the opportunity but caved in to the union bosses. Now he must act. Democracy is for the people. It must not be a plaything of the super-rich.

I don't know when it happened, probably it was Brexit, but so much of the diversity of opinion in the UK press has gone, replaced by groupthink, this means the loss of @Simon_Nixon, @DAaronovitch, @OborneTweets and so many more but it means the entire thing can face in the wrong direction. There is intolerance, deep unhappiness and a nastiness that is new. Just look at the front pages.

Burnham has the most perfect opportunity to stand up and say:
“These boats are coming because of Brexit. I will not tolerate men in balaclavas blocking off ports, men and women screaming abuse at police or police being hurt and their vehicles smashed. Whilst having enormous sympathy for genuine refugees I will not tolerate illegal immigration. Today I will be speaking to my EU counterparts about fast-track Brexit reversal. I want our borders fully controlled as they always were and the economy booming. Brexit has been nothing but damaging for the UK”.
Do it.

We have covered both Patriot Platform and Danny Tommo’s previous activity in the Raise the Colours movement.
In August we revealed the violent pasts of Tommo’s “handpicked” men, who despite being subject to “rigorous checks” and prioritising “quality over quantity”, have multiple convictions including violence against women.
