President Obama, you spoke about someone’s life being turned upside down by the full weight of the federal government. My wife, Bevelyn Williams, received 41 months in federal prison under Biden’s DOJ. Our daughter lost her mother’s presence at home. Emails later released by DOJ called that sentence an “incredible result” and “excellent news.” President Trump pardoned her and reunited our family. He did the right thing. Before you condemn him, address what your own political party did. Take the plank out of your own eye before pointing to the speck in someone else’s. Your statement hit home. I’m speaking from passion, firsthand experience with government weaponization, and victory. You describe Congresswoman Omar’s situation as political targeting by Trump. Reporting describes investigative activity under Biden. The magistrate judge who approved the search was selected by the district court, previously donated to Clinton and clerked for an Obama appointee. Those facts establish neither guilt nor motive. They belong in the whole story. So does my family. Bevelyn is a Black Christian mother and private citizen. The protest happened in June 2020. NYPD was present both days. She wasn’t arrested at the scene. James sued her civilly in February 2021. Biden’s DOJ obtained an indictment in December 2022, approximately two and a half years later and after Dobbs. Our family experienced retaliation after Dobbs. Her requested First Amendment jury instruction was denied. Our daughter lived with the consequences. Letitia James had plenty of fight for my wife. New Yorkers deserved that same fight from their attorney general. She had already pursued Bevelyn civilly. Then she publicly promised to come after her again. Meanwhile, federal inspectors documented failures in her office’s criminal enforcement against Medicaid fraud and patient abuse and neglect. Vulnerable patients. Nursing home residents. Taxpayers. Their interests were her responsibility too. She made pursuing my wife a public priority. Her own office’s failures became a matter of public record. I call that vindictive politics and failed leadership. President Obama, putting her in the victim’s chair does not erase the people her leadership failed. DOJ’s weaponization report documents coordination with outside advocacy groups, a dossier containing information about me and our infant daughter, and sentencing disparities in the cases compared. Congratulations were exchanged over my wife’s sentence. We faced separation. Since your party emphasizes identity, include this: Trump pardoned a Black woman and reunited a Black family. Biden’s DOJ obtained the sentence that separated us. My family does not hate Democrats. Disagreement does not have to become hatred. Many Democrats, Republicans and Independents reject socialism and communism and want secure borders and safe communities. What we agree upon can help heal this nation’s fractures. Selective outrage and incomplete stories are exhausting. Put the whole record before the American people. They can draw their own conclusions. Our family mattered before a pardon. Our pain deserves to matter even when our politics don’t match yours.
It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

Posted by Silver Moon Brewing in Bend Oregon… ❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 They are located at 24 NW Greenwood Ave. Hi, my name is Steve Augustyn, and I am one of the owners of Silver Moon. I have three young boys who have all attended Silver Rail, and our youngest is in 4th grade at Silver Rail now. The school and the community have been a part of our lives for many years. Some of you know me, and some of you may not. If you do know me, you know how much I love and care about this community and the well-being of people from all walks of life. I have always done my best to make sure Silver Moon is a place where everyone feels welcome. Pubs were created to be gathering places for communities, and that is exactly what I hope we can be. A place where people can come together, support one another, and talk about what they’re feeling, whether it’s good, bad, sad, angry, happy, or anything in between. This Wednesday, October 21st, I would like to invite you all to the pub to do just that. 100% of all sales and donations, not just the profit, but every dollar spent, will be donated to the families ( or a charity of their choosing) who have experienced loss from this tragedy. I am doing this intentionally so there is no confusion about my motives. This is not about notoriety, publicity, or financial gain. I’m doing this for myself, for Silver Rail, and for a community that desperately needs a place to come together and support one another. With love, Steve & Marissa Augustyn P.S. I apologize for any grammatical errors. I did not use AI to write this message ❤️ (Original post in comments)

Jose Ramirez learned to hit on a dirt field across the river from his house, swinging a stick at bottle caps. Cleveland signed him out of there for $50,000. Tonight he hit a home run on a pitch that was under 9 inches off the ground, and the Cleveland Guardians are going to the American League Championship Series. Here is the whole thing. He grew up in Bani, in the Dominican Republic. The family house sat across the Rio Bani from the field where the kids played. His father could not find steady work. "He didn't have much work, we didn't have much money." His grandmother Santa raised him. "She taught me the values of helping the community." She died in 2023. The game they played in Bani is called Vitilla. A bottle cap for a ball, a stick for a bat. "I had to play with a glove that was too tight." Miguel Tejada, who is also from Bani, used to run a clinic that handed out food and equipment to kids who needed it. Ramirez remembers getting in that line. Then in 2009 he took some swings at a showcase in front of Cleveland scouts, and they signed him for $50,000. That was 17 years ago. He has never played for anybody else. In January he signed an extension through 2032 with a full no trade clause, and tore up a deal that still had three years and $69 million on it. Seven All Star teams. 285 home runs and 287 stolen bases. He has never won a World Series. Cleveland has not won one since 1948. And this was the worst year of his career. He had surgery on the hamate bone in his left hand and he never really looked like himself again. Then this series started and Cleveland lost the first two games at home to the Chicago White Sox. Down 0 and 2. One loss from the end of it. Game 3 he went 2 for 4 and Cleveland won. Game 4, facing elimination, he hit a two run home run and drove in three, and Cleveland won again. Game 5 tonight, facing elimination again. Fourth inning. Sean Burke throws him a 78 mile an hour curveball that crosses the plate 0.74 feet off the ground. He hits it 348 feet over the right field fence. Nobody has homered on a lower pitch in a postseason game since baseball started tracking where pitches cross the plate in 2008. He is also the first Cleveland hitter ever to homer in two straight postseason games while facing elimination in both of them. Those two runs were the only runs anybody scored. Gavin Williams struck out 12 and gave up one hit. Cleveland 2, Chicago White Sox 0. Now the honest part. He is 34 and he had a bad regular season, Cleveland lost five of six to the Tampa Bay Rays this year, and Game 1 is Monday night in Tampa. But a kid who learned to hit bottle caps with a stick just took a curveball off his shoelaces and ended a series with it.

Every year I take a picture of the spine of each book read in my class. I usually clumped the books together in a classroom chart. This year students are putting the books that they have read on their individual lockers. It also serves as an easy visual to see at a quick glance what each student is reading.

This level of disrespect is incomprehensible. As the names of Americans murdered on September 11th are read aloud at Ground Zero, AOC and Mamdani are laughing and smiling together. There is a time and a place for politics. This isn’t it. Ground Zero is sacred ground. Those names belong to fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, firefighters, cops, and innocent Americans who went to work one morning and never came home. For a few hours, on one day, have some damn respect. September 11th is not a photo op. It is not a networking event. It is a funeral America has attended for 25 years.

Dear @WhiteHouse, my name is Rodney Smith Jr., founder of Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service in Huntsville, Alabama. Through our 50 Yard Challenge, over 6,000 kids across the country have signed up to mow free lawns for the elderly, disabled, veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and single parents. With America celebrating its 250th birthday this year and me also being born on July 4th, I wanted to humbly ask if a few kids from our program and myself could travel to Washington, D.C. to help mow the White House lawn for this historic celebration. More than anything, I want these kids to see how a simple act of service something as ordinary as mowing a lawn for someone in need can lead to extraordinary places. What better lesson in community service than showing them that helping others can take them all the way to our nation’s capital? I’d also love to bring my American flag-themed mower in hopes that the President might sign it, so I can later auction it off and donate 100% of the proceeds to a nonprofit supporting veterans. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to highlight the importance of service, patriotism, and the impact young people can have when they choose to make a difference. 🇺🇸
