Duchenne is caused by mutations in the dystrophin gene. FSHD is caused by abnormal activation of DUX4. Genetically, they have nothing in common, but both converge on the same consequence: muscle stem cells can no longer repair muscle as they should.
That is what we target — the repair biology itself, rather than the genetic cause.

Muscle is built to repair itself. Muscle stem cells replace what ordinary use wears down.
In degenerative muscle diseases, that repair process is disrupted and damage outpaces repair. In both Duchenne and FSHD, the genetic mutations causing the conditions disrupt the body’s natural muscle regenerative process.
Different genetics, the same underlying problem. Closing that gapbetween muscle damage and repair, is the focus of our work.

We’re expanding forazapadin (SAT-3247) into a second degenerative muscle disease. The @FDA has cleared our IND in facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), and we’re grateful to the FSHD Canada Foundation for its support as we move toward a Phase 2 study later this year. September is Newborn Screening Awareness Month.
Earlier diagnosis can help children with #Duchenne muscular dystrophy and their families access care and support sooner. Join us in recognizing the advocacy groups working to advance newborn screening and help bring earlier diagnosis to more families.

#SatellosStories: Meet Bill Aschenbach.
Bill's career took the long way around. He started as a muscle biologist, then followed a chance tip out of the lab and into medical affairs. Over 25 years he learned every corner of the field across companies large and small, building teams from the ground up more than once. It all led back to where he started: muscle. Today he leads Medical Affairs at Satellos.
His story, in his own words. ↓

Muscle comes with its own repair crew.
Stem cells sit alongside muscle fibers, ready to respond when damage occurs. They divide to replenish themselves and create the muscle-building cells needed for repair.
In Duchenne muscular dystrophy, that repair process breaks down. Too few muscle-building cells are produced, and repair can’t keep up with ongoing damage.
See how it happens.

#SatellosStories: Meet Cassie McGurk.
Cassie's path to biotech wasn't a straight line — FDA attorney, time away to raise her family, then a return to the kind of complex, layered work she's drawn to. Today, as senior director of Program Management at Satellos, she keeps the many moving pieces of a clinical-stage biotech in sync.
