Huntingdon deserves to be known for its people, its community and its future - not for breeding beagles for laboratory experiments. And we believe local people deserve a say in whether MBR Acres should continue to operate on their doorstep. At our march for the Save The Dogs campaign, Green Party councillors from Huntingdonshire District Council voiced their support for the closure of MBR Acres, recognising that this is an issue that matters to animals, local people and the community’s future. More than 92% of drug candidates that pass animal testing fail during human clinical trials. And potentially life-saving treatments could be abandoned because they fail in animals, even when they might be safe and effective for people. We need to invest in human-relevant research methods that can better predict how treatments work in the human body - helping science move forward and giving promising treatments a better chance. 𝗜𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟮, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿.｡ It said the development and implementation of non-animal alternatives should be treated as a “high priority goal, which requires immediate and dedicated attention.” 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟰 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼｡ Yet today, the Government’s strategy is still setting targets for 2030 to reduce the use of animals in certain areas of testing, while working towards the longer-term goal of phasing out animal use except in exceptional circumstances. And in the meantime, beagles are still being bred for use in scientific and regulatory testing. 𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟰 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼?
