ALT Graphical abstract displaying key results of paper. In summary: During their early evolution, sauropodomorph dinosaurs were excluded from the hottest, low-latitude climate zones. Dunne et al. show that the geographic expansion of sauropodomorphs after the end-Triassic mass extinction was facilitated by climatic change, supporting the key role of climate in the ascendancy of dinosaurs

ALT Graphic displaying the key results of the paper. Text reads: Ethics, law, and politics in palaeontological research: The case of Myanmar amber. Research interest has increased over time - dramatically since 2014 - against the backdrop of major political events. Myanmar amber falls into a legal "grey-zone" that continues to be exploited, fuelling unethical (and illegal) research. Research on Myanmar amber is dominated by authors based outside of the country. Action needed: Increased awareness of these issues, more equitable collaborations, systemic changes (e.g. editorial polices).

ALT A graphical summary of Clements et al. 2022 - released 08/08/2022 How can rotten fish help us understand how organs turn into fossils? Did you know that some soft tissues (like muscles and internal organs) can turn into fossils by being replaced by minerals? For this to happen, special chemical conditions are needed when the animal is buried - this is why they are so rare! The weird thing is that some internal organs frequently become fossils, while others are almost never found. Some scientists think that is because each organ decays in a unique way. To see if this was right, we designed an experiment to monitor what happens inside of a fish when it is rotting. The experiment was utterly disgusting! Our data indicates that it isn't the way organs rot that controls this, but organ tissue chemistry that determines the likelihood of them becoming fossils.
