Scottish Adult Adoptee Movement represents the only Scottish grassroots organisation representing the rights, interest & wellbeing of adult adoptees Scotland-wide
Yesterday members of the SAAM team had the pleasure of meeting @NatalieDon_ CYPM and her colleagues @scotgov 🧵
A special thank you from SAAM!
Thank you to the adult adoptees who continue to share their voices, knowledge and lived experiences, and to everyone supporting our Adoptee Rights UK campaign.

A special thanks to Andrew for generously giving his time and skills to understand our movement and bring our work together through our new website.
Our website reflects years of independent advocacy, research and campaigning for recognition, accountability and lifelong
adoptee rights.
Take a look at our new website!

The Adoption Chain Podcast
Do adoptees around the world have similar outlooks, or a whole different set of problems?
We would say adoptees around the world have both

This piece explores how adoption and orphanhood are treated as cheap punchlines or reductive tropes in Hollywood, drawing on the author's personal experience as an adoptee.

Happy Care Week
When Scotland promised to get it right for every child, did that include the children whose care journey ended in adoption?
10 years later, there are still no improvements in data, and statistic’s for those placed in adoption.

22 care-experienced young people died in Scotland in 2025.
And now we’re being told that information surrounding deaths in state care is missing, withheld or redacted. Shock horror. Children’s services and local authorities withholding information. Who could possibly have seen that coming 🙄
We’ve spent YEARS talking about The Promise. Years of commitments, strategies, reports and promises of change.
But at what point does everyone stop talking about what they intend to do and start looking at what is actually happening on the ground?
Because The Promise has become another buzzword. Just like “lessons learned”. We hear the right words, we get the carefully worded statements, and we’re told things will be better. But where is the meaningful action?
And when young people die, why are we still facing questions about missing information and redacted details?
Care-experienced people deserve answers. Families deserve answers. And the public deserves to know whether the systems responsible for protecting vulnerable young people are actually being held accountable.
You cannot promise change while refusing to be transparent about what is happening.
We are tired of the talk. We are tired of the buzzwords. And we are tired of seeing commitments made while the reality on the ground tells a very different story.
The Promise needs to mean something in practice, not just on paper.

It’s not just HES. Children’s Hearings #Scotland made false allegations against volunteers who exposed #corruption & mismanagement, leading to their removal by the Lord President. SNP Ministers turned a blind eye to CHS abuses of power.
#BBCLauraK @markthehibby @Georgia_Edkins
Threatening a whistleblower who raises concerns about public money is disgraceful. SNP ministers must answer for how their government handled this disclosure.
Someone came to them with serious allegations about Historic Environment Scotland. Civil servants sent the complaint back to HES—and its response raised the prospect of disciplinary action against the person speaking out.
How is anyone supposed to have confidence in that?
SNP ministers cannot wash their hands of this. They must commission an independent investigation and insist that whistleblowers are protected from reprisals.

Adoption Week 2026
In 2004 #Scotland took the first step and acknowledged child abuse in residential homes.
Since, consolations, further apologies, more inquiries,
For those #adopted have their voices ever truly been addressed?
