A lot of people have a budget for their finances, but they don't have a budget for equally important limited resources like time and energy. Prioritize your #screenwriting

We're really good at making #screenwriting goals, but really bad at turning those goals into habits and the reason is that we default to "easy," we default to things that don't require a lot of extra energy because everything is pulling at our energy.

Spend more time focusing on the #screenwriting journey (habits) and less on the destination (goals).

Your number one #screenwriting goal should be to get it done, not get it done perfectly.

"Every other job you show up and do the work. Your boss isn't going to give you time to get inspired or to do research. You just show up and do it and that's what #screenwriting has to become for you. A job." - Hudson Phillips

"Motivation comes and goes. If you want to do something consistently, then don't pick a level of difficulty that requires great motivation. Make it easy enough and simple enough that you'll do it even when you don't feel very motivated." –@JamesClear

So many screenwriters are driven (and let down) by a desparate need for validation. Instead, think of writing like working out. You know you're doing it right because you are stronger, more toned, & feel good about yourself, not because someone told you you're doing it right.

Love it. The best way to overcome perfectionism is not to try and write something great but to try and write something terrible. You'll fail either way but with the latter you'll also finish. #screenwriting #screenplay #scriptblast

Don't ask how you can sell your first screenplay, ask how you can get to your 15th as quickly as possible.

The two greatest moments in screenwriting: 1. When you're writing. 2. When someone connects with your work. Only one of those things can you actually accomplish every day. Focus on that one.

To keep a script character-driven, make sure you're tracking the chain of choices. In every scene your protagonist should make a choice that affects the next scene. Use "therefore" instead of "and then." This happens THEREFORE this happens not this happens AND THEN this happens.

The more you do, the less you get done. Choose one project and finish it before you move onto the next. #screenwriting

8 questions to ask about your protagonist before you start writing: What is their flaw? What do they want? What do they need? What is their goal? What is their biggest fear? What are their strengths & skills? What is their weakness? What do they value?

You hear a lot of "make sure your villain is the hero of their own story" but I'd like to add "make sure every character is a villain in the hero's story." That is, every character should be getting in the way of the hero's goal. Conflict is king. #screenwriting
