COACHING LESSON : HOW TO PROPERLY REVIEW A VOD ? 🧠
Reviewing a VOD is not just about watching your kills, deaths, or mechanical mistakes. The goal is to understand what is happening on the map, why certain situations occur, and how to avoid repeating the same mistakes.
Here are a few key points to focus on:
🗺️ 1. Focus on the minimap, not the POV
Your POV shows you what you can see. The minimap shows you what you need to understand.
Pay attention to your teammates' positions, enemy movements, open spaces, and map control. This is often where you'll find the answers to your mistakes.
🔄 2. Understand the spawns
This is arguably one of the most important aspects to master early on.
Why does an enemy spawn here instead of somewhere else? Why does your teammate respawn in that position? What caused that spawn?
Every position, movement, and space left open can influence future spawns. Understanding these patterns allows you to anticipate situations instead of reacting to them.
🧠 3. Analyze your decision-making
Why did you take that fight? Why did you leave that position? Why did you commit to that rotation?
A bad decision can cost you a life, the hill, or an entire rotation.
It's not enough to recognize that you made a mistake. You need to understand what led to it and what the better decision would have been.
⏱️ 4. Master your timings
Timings and decision-making go hand in hand.
Knowing when to take a fight, slow down, anticipate a flank, or rotate is essential.
A good timing can secure an important kill. A bad timing can expose you unnecessarily or cost you map control.
You can't separate decision-making from timing. One doesn't work without the other.
📌 Early on, your main priority should be understanding spawns, especially in Hardpoint, and the lines you can't cross without flipping them.
If you don't understand an enemy or teammate spawn, pause the VOD. Go back a few seconds. Analyze positions, movements, and map control.
Don't resume until you understand why that player spawned there.
This is how you develop a true understanding of the game.
Playing isn't enough to win scrims. You need to understand what you're doing, why you're doing it, and how your decisions impact the map.

So Sunderland were robbed of a penalty for a blatant push in the back.
The referee has since given multiple free kicks for *checks notes* the exact same foul...
