A reminder that my book, charting the history of the #BHAFC matchday programme, is available at seagullsprogrammes.co.uk
From the primitive matchcards of the late 19th century, to the magazines we see today, the programme has been a part of the matchday routine for the millions to pass through the Goldstone, Pristfield, Withdean and Amex turnstiles.
With over 45,000 words accompanied by nearly 1,700 images, my book takes the reader through the history of the Albion programme. It’s the ideal gift for the Albion fan in your life!
When we downsized and moved to Cornwall 3 years ago, I had to make a big decision about my #BHAFC programme collection. There just wasn’t enough room for it all.
After trying to sell a load, I had to get rid of boxes and boxes of away programmes and only 1 has survived.
This covers the period from 1948 to 1977 and I’m now finally getting round to scanning them.
Watch seagullsprogrammes.co.uk as they are uploaded. Some of them are absolute gems, snapshots of football when it wasn’t all about financial crime and TV rights.

Just a really nice sociable feel around Jablonec this afternoon - and great to see this man.
Jiři Skalak, scorer of possibly the best goal seen at the Amex (until last Sunday). #BHAFC
On this day 1977, #BHAFC drew 1-1 with #CPFC at The Goldstone. Another large (all-ticket) Goldstone crowd of 28,208 saw Ian Mellor score for Albion in the first half, before Paul Hinshelwood equalised for Palace near the end. Albion drop 1 place to 6th in the table.
It was a bit lively that day as I remember, something picked up on in John Vinicombe's @brightonargus report. seagullsprogrammes.co.uk/197…
On this day 1997, #BHAFC slip to 23rd in the Division Three (League Two) table, with a 1-0 home defeat to #imps. It wasn't really 'home' though.
This was the first of two seasons spent ground-sharing with Gillingham and those 'home' games involved a 150-mile round trip. Just 1,036 saw this Wednesday night fixture and every one of those people has to be applauded for their efforts.
Without them dragging the team through the 46 league games at Priestfield and then joining with others through the 12 seasons at Withdean, who knows where we would be now. Probably not glugging beer in Jablonec before a European fixture...............

On this day 1960, Adrian Thorne scores for #BHAFC but we are beaten 2-1 by #blades at Bramall Lane in Division Two. The result, watched by a crowd of 16,167, means we stay 20th in the table. seagullsprogrammes.co.uk/196…
On this day 1955, #BHAFC go 3rd in Division Three (South) with a 3-0 win over #BrentfordFC at The Goldstone. The crowd of 12,771 see goals from Bert Mundy, Pete Harburn and Denis Foreman. seagullsprogrammes.co.uk/195…
On this day 1949, #BHAFC welcomed #Notts to The Goldstone for a Division Three (South) fixture. A crowd of 17,411 saw the visitors win 3-2, with Johnny McNichol and Bill Morris scoring the Albion goals. The result dropped us 2 places to 18th in the table. seagullsprogrammes.co.uk/194…
On this day 1938, #BHAFC made the short trip to play #CPFC at Selhurst Park in Division Three (South). A crowd of 18,899 saw the hosts win 1-0, a result that left Albion 9th in the table.

An amazing live band and way back in 1977, I saw them at The Locarno in Portsmouth, with Marc Bolan.
Incredible energy
#BHAFC started their 1921/22 Division Three (South) campaign with high hopes after a number of summer signings. After a good start, with 3 wins and a draw in the first 4 games, things didn't go to plan and by the time we travelled to play #cafc at The Valley #OTD 1921, we had lost 6 of the following 7 games.
In a tight contest, the @brightonargus reported that "Charlton ran out the winners of a very stubbornly-contested struggle by the narrowest possible margin of 1-0". The game was watched by 12,000

On this day 1904, early #BHAFC were getting used to life as a Southern League Division One club. The second season at the higher level was tough for Albion, who went into the game against #QPR in 14th place in the table.
As always, the @brightonargus were quick to provide a report for the evening edition and the comprehensive account of the game heaped praise on Albion for a superb 3-0 victory. The paper reported a crowd of 4,000, but official records put the attendance at 6,000.
They saw goals from Tom Robertson, Billy Roberts and Andy Gardner.

A picture which unites the subjects of two of my books ('Bloody Southerners' & 'Eric & Dave'). Dave Hollins of Newcastle United saves at the feet of Sunderland's Brian Clough in a Wear/Tyne derby of the early 60s. No idea of the taker but glad he managed to capture the moment.
