Since my time as a coach, I’ve always loved building teams. Never has it felt more important than when assembling our District 9 team. After an extensive process, I couldn’t be more excited about the community rooted & wildly talented squad that’ll make up the District 9 team 👇🏽

A few resignations and apologies won’t solve the underlying problems exposed in the LA City Council recordings. Those of us in the Latino community need to commit to creating a better future for all, not just some.

Condemning overt publicized racism is easy for Latin@s in positions of leadership. The real test is how we behave when behind closed doors & there is a need for accountability. Anti-blackness & colorism are too common in our community & it needs to stop. latimes.com/california/story…

@GustavoArellano nails it - “The latent fear that Latino politicians care only about Latinos and will screw over other groups as our population continues to grow remains too real…when you’re now the majority, you’re not supposed to act like those who previously oppressed you.”

This is all an effort to reduce #methane leaking from landfills, a potent greenhouse gas warming the planet. The cost of throwing food in a landfill is not only material, it’s existential. – at Long Beach, CA

Climate action can’t wait. Neither can taking action to free San Diego from the 100-year old chains of the People’s Ordinance. There’s a reason why climate champions such as @sdclimateaction and @SanDiego350 have long championed this reform. Measure B is essential climate action
Replying to @mckelmer
San Diego issued millions in new debt and has another $85 million composting facility to pay for on the horizon. @SeanEloRivera said the state food waste recycling mandate is an added reason he pushed for Measure B, which would allow the city to charge everyone for waste.

“Housing ends homelessness.” The Mayor said it and I agree. When these homes are completed, lives will be transformed and our whole community will benefit. Very appreciative for the partnership with @MayorToddGloria and @SupFletcher on this very important effort.
Housing ends homelessness. Thank you to the State for awarding San Diego this funding to create more homes for our local unsheltered population. Working with ⁦@SupFletcher⁩ and ⁦@SeanEloRiveraD9⁩, we’ll put these funds to good use. #ForAllofUs 10news.com/news/local-news/c…

We should celebrate every successful effort to end a family’s homelessness. We also must learn from them. It shouldn’t have been so damn hard for the Raschke’s. And it shouldn’t have taken ⁦@LisaHalverstadt⁩’s intrepid reporting to elevate the story. voiceofsandiego.org/2022/08/…

Today is a solemn day, marking 1 year since the fall of Kabul. For the last year I have had the honor of leading the #AfghanEvac team. This morning at 8am we shared this open letter to the Afghan diaspora in Dari, Pashto, and English. It’s a quick read and we mean every word.
One year ago today, Kabul fell and the lives of those living and working in this space changed irrevocably. But for Afghans around the globe, we know this is not simply an anniversary: it is a day that your country and your home changed. afghanevac.org/letter-afghan…

For my dad, @TheVinScully was the person who kept him company in an often empty broken home. For me, #VinScully was a grandfather who’d helped raise my dad & told the best stories. He was the voice of both of our entire lives until he retired. We loved him & won’t ever forget him – at San Diego, CA
There’s a unique relationship btwn fans & a baseball announcer. The # of games, length of seasons, & pace of play create the conditions for someone we’ve never met to feel like family. For generations of #Dodgers fans, Vinny was family. 🥺 latimes.com/sports/dodgers/s…

This important story highlights several societal failures & systems designed to produce outcomes none of us should accept. San Diego’s recently funded multidisciplinary outreach team should help folks like Angel & are part of the more humane & effective system we must build. – at San Diego, CA

A city can’t reach its potential without truth-tellers who hold a mirror up and force us to reckon with the injustices and inequality that many would prefer to ignore. This was an excellent piece about one of San Diego’s most important truth-tellers. – at San Diego, CA
