When we first passed Whole-Home Repairs, we hoped it would offer a blueprint for other states grappling with how to preserve aging housing stock and protect their residents. Today’s passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act shows the realization of this hope.

It was a joy to celebrate the renovations of @phillyhomeless’s ground floor facilities! Across our city, no other shelter is as large, nor has as long a history of service. Here, guests are met with care, dignity, respect, and wrap-around services, as well as a warm meal.

I was proud to help support these renovations with a $500,000 state grant. The highest honor of my job is championing Philadelphians in visioning the world that we want—and in the hard work of building it. Thank you, @phillyhomeless, for all that you do.

City Council supports the PA Universal Healthcare Act! Thank you so much to my colleagues in council for adding your voices to the calls for the state’s general assembly to pass this bill. The fight for universal healthcare in Pennsylvania is one that we can and must win.

When you pay for electricity each month, the price should be for the true cost of energy, not extra profits for the megarich.

Health care is a human right. So glad to see @RepGregScott and @SenatorSaval pushing for a universal system that treats care as a guarantee, not a gamble. In the richest country on earth, families shouldn’t have to choose between seeing a doctor and paying their bills. metrophiladelphia.com/storie…

Aaron Bernstine should resign from the House. Pennsylvania is better and bigger than this. Deeply grateful to the PA Building Trades leaders who stood up in real time, and for every single one of you who has since. We deserve better and we have to demand It.

I just signed the Week Without Driving pledge. Starting today through October 8, I’m walking, biking, using transit—and, when none of these are possible, carpooling—to travel around the region for work and with my family.

Some 30% of Pennsylvanians don’t drive, because of age, a disability, income, or another factor. Here in Philly, 1 in 4 households doesn’t have a car. Week Without Driving invites us to reimagine mobility across our country, in rural and urban areas, and everywhere in between.

I challenge my colleagues in the legislature to join me in taking the pledge, taking transit, and taking initiative to craft policies to ensure our constituents can get where they need to go and back home safely. @RepBenWaxman, @RepFiedler, are you in? weekwithoutdrivingpa.org

A little rain couldn’t dampen our 5th Annual Senior Celebration this past weekend! We ate, we danced, we connected with neighbors. Thanks to all the community partners who came out with resources and information to support our seniors. We couldn’t do this without you!

It was my honor to join @SenatorSaval to present the Garces Family Foundation with a state grant check for $122,000. This award will support the foundation’s English language training and workforce development initiatives for Philly’s immigrant population.

My letter to Drexel and the Academy of Natural Sciences Board. The museum is of incalculable value to our region and to international scientific and cultural fields. Philadelphia bears a serious responsibility to do everything we can to preserve it at its current location.

This evening marks the start of Yom Kippur for families across the Commonwealth and around the world. During this sacred time of reflection, forgiveness, and reverence, my team and I send our collective wishes for the year ahead to be filled with peace, wisdom, and love.

The best ribbon cuttings are the ones where @SenatorSaval and I get to show kids the proper way to climb a jungle gym. Recently, we joined the Greenfield community to celebrate a schoolyard improved with state grant funding. But the real story is that hundreds of kids now have a better place to learn, play, and grow.

Shana Tova! Rosh Hashanah and the Days of Awe begin at sundown, and my team and I wish all who are celebrating very happy new year. May the year ahead be filled with the sweetness that comes from openness and from connection—with each other and with our paths.

A gorgeous morning at Philly’s annual Labor Day Parade. Generations of workers fought for the protections we have today. We honor their victories by continuing this fight until all people have safe working conditions, fair wages, and dignity for our labor.
