Proudly serving as the Senator of the 43rd District, and Leader of the @PASenateDems.

Allegheny County, Pa
Joined June 2014
Senate Republicans have blocked countless measures to improve the lives of Pennsylvania's families for far too long. Measures to increase pay, reduce costs, expand opportunities, and grow our economy have languished in committee due to Senate Republicans' inaction.

Make your plan to vote TODAY! This weekend, October 24 & 25, you can return your mail-in ballot to a staffed ballot return location. You can also vote over-the-counter, where you request, complete, and return your ballot all at once. Thanks for being a voter this year!

I was incredibly honored today to attend a ribbon cutting for Penn Lincoln Apartments, which provide 41 affordable housing opportunities to Allegheny County residents. Delivering safe, affordable housing for every Pennsylvanian is a top priority of the Senate Democrats.

If you are a registered voter in Allegheny County, you can visit a satellite election office this weekend (October 24 & 25) to request, complete, and return a mail-in ballot all in one motion. This is a great opportunity to make your voice heard in this year's elections.

No one can survive in 2026 making $7.25 an hour. Let me put that in real terms: If you work a 40-hour work week, that’s a little over $15,000 a year. That’s not sustainable. Despite that fact, another legislative session has come and gone — and while the House has voted repeatedly to raise the minimum wage, Republicans in the State Senate left town again and refused to even bring a minimum wage bill up for a vote.   It’s not okay. It’s time to raise the minimum wage in Pennsylvania.

There’s one reason — and one reason only — why the minimum wage here in Pennsylvania is still $7.25: The @PASenateGOP. And they just left town AGAIN without getting it done.

Did you know? More than half of all Pennsylvania mail ballots have already been returned, and the mail ballot return rate is higher this year than it was four years ago. Make sure you return your ballot as soon as it's ready so your voice can be heard! You can return it by USPS or by delivering it in-person at a county designated location: vote.pa.gov/returnballot

BREAKING: I just signed into law a bipartisan bill that requires real transparency when it comes to AI use in advertising. Pennsylvanians deserve to know if and when AI is being used in ads — and now, thanks to this new law, any advertisement in the Commonwealth that uses AI technology must make that crystal clear.

Question: If I have a disability or need extra assistance, should I focus on getting a ride to my polling place or apply for a mail ballot? Secretary Schmidt answers 👇

Senate Republicans left a disgraceful amount of unfinished business here in Harrisburg. It's an embarrassment. Senate Democrats are ready to tackle some of the big issues facing Pennsylvania, from affordability to health care to equality and beyond. Let’s go.

PENNVEST Dollars are coming to Allegheny County! The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority was awarded a loan of $13,600,000 to replace approximately 600 catch basins. I look forward to seeing these dollars at work.

I was extremely proud to vote for the 2026-27 PA Budget, which included funding to support student literacy. It’s so important that young adults develop a love of reading, and this funding will support educators in this endeavor. buff.ly/vZMxKe0

I was delighted to host a gathering of the bicameral, bipartisan Arts & Culture Caucus here in Harrisburg! My colleagues and I joined important stakeholders in the arts space to discuss how the legislature can continue investing in the preservation and advancement of art in PA.
