This is what it looks like to cower before authoritarianism. You don't call out a white supremacist president even when he uses classically antisemitic language because you're afraid he'll retaliate against you. jewishcurrents.org/the-shame…
The term “Shylock” is rooted in a longstanding antisemitic stereotype. Regardless of intent, its use can reinforce harmful tropes about Jews and normalize language that has long been used to target the Jewish community.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Trump used “Shylock” at a Kansas rally Oct. 19 defending Sen. Marshall. ADL’s post omits naming him, unlike its 2025 statement.

Almost two years later, Baltimore's historic drop in homicides is finally getting the national attention it deserves. newrepublic.com/article/2159…

Replying to @mehdirhasan
It is insanely dangerous for American Jewish public figures to scream antisemitism everytime someone in America criticizes a foreign country, no matter how harsh or unfair you may think that criticism is. The danger is that antisemitism is emptied of all value and meaning and seriousness and also that people start blaming American Jews for Israel’s actions since American Jewish leaders can’t stop conflating American Jews with Israel.
Most of us who criticize Israel try and go out of our way to separate Israel and Zionism from Jews and Judaism; it’d be nice if supporters of Israel could do the same and not be so cynical and reckless.

To say the very least on this, the congressman is incorrect on the law.
Two-party consent is relevant only to private oral conversations, and he has zero expectation of privacy here.
1st Amendment gives you the right to record public officials in public places as long as you're not interfering with their official duties.
In 1972, Justice William Douglas said:
"It is the poor, the sick, the ignorant, the powerless and the hated who are executed. One searches our chronicles in vain for the execution of any member of the affluent strata of this society."
It's still true.

The most anticipated match of the country's most high-profile tournament starting after 11pm on a Tuesday is... not ideal. For anyone. Tennis needs to sort this out.
This picture and this moment say everything I love about tennis.

Pro tennis mixed doubles may be the only event in the world where men and women compete together at such a high level with such entertainment value - it really is the best.

For years, the naysayers have counted Baltimore out. But the numbers across the board are telling a different story.
At our peak, Baltimore had 16,000 vacant properties citywide. Through hard work and the right investments, we’ve brought that number down to fewer than 12,000. Eliminating 1 in 4 vacant properties across our city.
And we’ve reduced homicides and nonfatal shootings to the lowest levels our city has seen in 50 years.
The progress our city is seeing is real. And is proof of what happens when we commit to doing things differently, despite what others may say. While we still have work to do, I am proud of how far our city has come.

Since David Smith, chairman of Sinclair, bought The Baltimore Sun in 2024, the paper has lost its status as Maryland's paper of record—that's now The Baltimore Banner. Smith may go after Moore via Sinclair and its TV affiliates, but really doubt it'll impact any 2028 aspirations.
The Baltimore ‘Sun’s letters-to-the-editor column last week featured a vigorous defense of the newspaper’s monthslong investigation of Maryland governor Wes Moore’s military service. The letter blasted a critic, saying he “offered indignation and diversion while totally avoiding the evidence at the center of the investigation,” and noted that the ‘Sun’ failed to tell its readers that he has a role in Moore’s administration. The author of the August 6 “reader commentary,” however, wasn’t just another steamed ‘Sun’ subscriber: It was Drew Sullins, who happens to be the lead analyst and principal writer of the Moore stories. In effect, the ‘Sun’ permitted Sullins to act as judge, jury, and executioner of his own work.
Sullins’s letter was unusual, if not unprecedented. To Moore’s camp, the letter illustrated the lengths the venerable newspaper and an allied consortium of media partners has gone to smear the Democratic governor, who is expected to handily win reelection in November and seen as a serious 2028 presidential contender. The intent, they suggest, is to take down Moore before he even decides upon seeking higher office. Moore — and some former ‘Sun’ journalists — say the animus toward the governor is driven by the paper’s principal owner, David D. Smith, a wealthy conservative who bought a majority stake in the newspaper in 2024.
Moore has accused the ‘Sun’ of “slander and misinformation” and has suggested that Smith is directly shaping the coverage. Moore even suggested in a June MS NOW interview that Smith had ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender, a claim that prompted Smith to sue Moore for defamation last month. In the same interview, Moore asserted that Smith said that “the job of the Sun is to do Donald Trump’s work,” which Smith denies.

Here it is in black and white, @GaryCollins:
“One of Spotlight’s leading reporters on the Moore stories, Gary M. Collins, is a former Republican campaign adviser who until 2022 was vice-chairman of the Maryland Republican Party.”

As Baltimore continues to hit new lows in gun violence, the city saw 7 homicides in July. It’s the lowest on record (since 1970) for the month of July, historically deadliest month of the year
For context:
2015: 45 homicides in July
2019: 38
2022: 34
2024: 25
2025: 15
2026: 7
I rarely see a post here that so absolutely 100% resonates in my soul. End the madness of backing into parking lots spots.

If you want to find out about Epstein's investements in Sinclair just read the Epstein files.
New: In a letter shared with @semafor, the owner of the Baltimore Sun threatened to sue Maryland Gov. Wes Moore for defamation over claims linking him to Jeffrey Epstein.
Usually it's the politician threatening to sue the media outlet for defamation, not the other way around...
