The draft Conversion Practices Bill would silence therapists, harm children and divide families.

We’re challenging the City of London Corporation’s decision to allow men who identify as women to use the Ladies’ Pond, including its changing rooms and showers.
The City has a lawful option: keep the Ladies’ Pond for women, the Men’s Pond for men and the Mixed Pond for both sexes. We’re asking the court to hold it to the law.

We agree with @bphillipsonMP, minister for women and equalities, that parents shouldn’t be prosecuted for having difficult conversations with their children.
But there is nothing on the face of the Conversion Practices Bill that protects them. We wrote to ask her to put that right.
And we shared the anonymous interview with a mother of a detransitioner:
“If you’re trying to kind of encourage them to explore those very important underlying questions, then arguably, you know, you could be accused of ‘psychological pressure’ and ‘coercion’.”

We have asked the minister to write to the joint committee raising the importance of ensuring that parents are not captured by the legislation and asking her to commit to amending the bill to make sure that normal parenting is not criminalised.
The minister says that parents should not be caught. If that is the aim, the protection belongs in the bill, where a court can read it – not in a newspaper article.

Bridget Phillipson says the conversion practices bill won't target parents.
There is nothing on the face of the bill that says parents are protected.
She says the test is “serious physical or psychological harm”.
In fact the bill sets the test much lower at “serious alarm or distress…which has a substantial adverse effect on their usual day-to-day activities”.
This could easily capture parents who don't let their child wear a binder or go out dressed as the opposite sex.

NEW: Several government departments have released new policies on trans-identifying civil servants and service personnel. These policies restore single-sex spaces but retain gender-identity language.

The guidance tells civil servants to complain to management if the policy is breached. They must be assured of a prompt and appropriate response. Cases such as that of Eleanor Frances at DCMS show that this has not been the case in the past.
