EA acaba de hacer algo pro consumidor
🧵 From those who I have talked to within EA and the greater community, Codemasters are happy with the state of modding in the F1 game series as it increases the lifespan of the game and could potentially see short-term monetary growth. EA, from my knowledge, are ok with modding the F1 games as long as modders are not making money with paid mods, or if mods are created to bypass paid DLC content.
In addition, actually playing with mods and such is not an issue. The only thing that has been properly confirmed now is content creators advertising “pirated content” hosted on launchers such as the Swofty Launcher or websites like OverTake - where to find the mods and how to install them.
This sudden shift in perspective with modding internally is the cause of FOM, with licensing obligations to only have content from the 2025 and 2026 seasons and to make the game match real life as much as possible. I am aware of some leagues having to change certain aspects of their broadcasts due to pressure from FOM for this exact reason, and porting old tracks & cars will most likely infringe on EA’s licensing agreement. Creating modded content that has been custom made and not ported from older games or other games entirely, from my knowledge, is not the problem with what is going on now.
While this is bad I will play devil’s advocate this one time; EA still has a duty of care to respect their licensing agreement with FOM. EA also needs to protect both their and FOM’s intellectual property and respect digital law by taking down mods that “pirate” content and assets from their previous games, which is the main issue that is facing modding now.
