However you celebrate during the holiday season, everyone at the Sheffield Sustainability Network would like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas or Hanukkah or winter solstice etc and a happy, sustainable new year.
The photo is of the Xmas Tree Festival at Sheffield Cathedral, with over 40 decorated trees by local charities, community groups & businesses.
The festival is free & on until Sunday 11th January, all donations are gratefully received to support the children's hospital.

Sheffield City Council is to launch Local Climate Bonds in Dec, inviting residents and businesses to invest from £5 in local green projects. The money will fund things like solar panels, energy-efficiency upgrades, and EV infrastructure — reducing Sheffield’s carbon footprint.
The bonds mature after five years, returning the original investment plus interest, and Sheffield will publish annual reports detailing exactly how the funds are being used.

🌳 Sheffield City Council has announced the expansion of its Tree Equity scheme for the 2025–26 planting season, focusing on neighbourhoods such as Southey, Longley, and Parson Cross.
The project aims to address inequalities in tree coverage across the city.
The new phase of the scheme will involve community planting events from Nov 25 through Apr 26, helping to create a greener city for everyone. 🌳🌲

Stagecoach Yorkshire is a finalist for the Environmental Innovation Award at the 2025 UK Bus Awards for its work to make Sheffield’s bus network greener. The company introduced electric buses supported by smart-charging systems that cut emissions and optimise energy use.
October's Sustainability Netwalking event will take place next Thursday, 16th October. Meeting at 9.15am outside Sheffield Town Hall before walking around Sheffield City Centre exploring public works of art, the cultural quarter and city squares.

Sheffield Community Bike Project is a volunteer-led charity, running drop-in bike maintenance sessions for the public and refurb donated bikes for sale, operating on a pay-as-you-can basis. 🚴♀️
