say what u will about 2020 diy-twitter but everyone used to listen to each others bands and use it as a way to interact w the scene outside of their region
tho this is always the case, it was a truly great time to be young and creative and i’m thankful we were there
Sheff O2 has been gone for years and the first two events back are a fuckin Katseye Tribute act and a fucking oasis tribute act.
How are we so creatively bankrupt in this fucking city CAN NO ONE BOOK A FUCKING GIG WITH A REAL BAND ANYMORE??

snarking is at a premium, so i feel obliged to remind my followers that anyone that chooses to devote their life to this art shit is 100x more brave and cool then people who tear it down.

giving yourself micro online twitter communities doesn’t count as touching grass and making friends. Constantly regurgitating the same talking points to the same discord group isn’t building community. People at least used to pretend to be useful by picking up a camera.

new gen of hyper online music fans completely ruined the dynamic of “diy twitter” shit used to be silly.. fun and games and the occasional guy making a notes app apology for JO in his own bathroom
Me when I get more than 2 likes on a tweet.

When I saw Lightning Bolt around 2002-2003, I was confused when the drummer started setting up next to me in the middle of the floor. As soon as they started playing dead center amongst the audience, I understood.

ALT A man says "I see you started wearing a chef's hat." The man in the toque blanche says "yeah, I'm working on a new bit called 'The Chef.' The first man asks "what's the chef's whole deal?" The Chef answers "mainly, he's confident in a way I'm not. The Chef points to two guys passing by and says "hey! you guys feel good about yourselves." The two guys say "yes, chef." One of the guys says "man, I love the Chef." The other one says "yeah, he's always cookin'."

This was so foreseeable (indeed my early prediction when ChatGPT came out) but a lot of tech people have a hard time understanding that the hypothetical enriching use of a tech loses out to the lazy corner cutting use 99.9% of the time theguardian.com/technology/2…

go to local shows. literally just show up at some bar on a weekend and see who’s playing. follow the bands you like and see where else they’re playing and who else they’re playing with. check out those bands and spots. see who else is playing at those other spots. repeat process.
Reminds when we got them in Sheff and the programme failed cause people kept sending them off the skate ramps on Dev green.

Also seen a lot of people saying this is racist, it's not inherently racist to only play UK music, plenty of countries have dedicated cultural mandates for %ages of local art being exhibited what will be racist about this is when they play only music made by white people.
