Gigabyte, Terabyte, Petabyte. Still my favorite partner page of all time (from Hex.tech).
Shopify's Catalog API can now return products from brands that don't sell on Shopify, in the same search as Shopify stores. It's in beta and US only for now.
Alright, time for an actual store. I'm setting one up to try everything new in Shopify, and you'll be able to buy from it too 😉
The tools Shopify used to build shop.md are open at shop.dev. Any agent can search Shopify products, check sizes and prices, and start a checkout with the store. It's a plain HTTP call, so you don't even need an AI model to use it.
That means it won't only be ChatGPT and Claude shopping for people. Any app can turn into a shopper.
The checkout still happens with the merchant, but the agent picks a store based on what's in its catalog. Messy variant names and thin product descriptions are going to cost more now.
Shopify just launched shop.md.
Add it to ChatGPT or Claude, connect your Shop account, and you've got a personal shopper. It finds stuff you'd actually like, checks out with Shop Pay, and your orders land in the Shop app.
I've been waiting for shopping in an agent to feel normal. This is the first one I'd tell my non-tech friends to try.
If you run a store, think about this. People won't search "running shoes" anymore. They'll say "a gift for my friend who just started running." Can an agent figure out from your product pages that you're the answer?
Shopify is shipping so fast right now that it's hard to keep up. Something new shows up almost every day, and the AI toolkit keeps getting new tools added to it.
It's a crazy time to be building for brands on Shopify.
Wow!!!

A couple of our customers asked me this, so passing it on.
Who are the best people to follow to learn how to use AI to run and grow a Shopify store? Blogs, YouTube, creators, anything.
Agree with this. Most of the customer service tools Shopify merchants use today were built for humans. Now people have agents asking on their behalf, and merchants are going to need tools built for that.
2027 will be the year of the personal agent. It has finally found PMF with Instinct, Muse & Grokbot.
This will cause a tsunami of customer enquiries — it’s now essentially free for a customer to send hundreds of emails, texts and phonecalls to make a single purchase.
Businesses will need AI customer service tools to save themselves from drowning.
