Went to a yard sale in the neighborhood and saw this 35-foot Joshua tree. They only grow about 1.5” a year on average, sometimes more, sometimes less. This guy is probably somewhere between 200-350 years old. The saguaros in this area can also approach those ages at the extreme ends. Cool to think about all of these Wild West times they’ve lived through.

Another item from Frank Scully’s scrapbook. Author of one of the first UFO books, 1950’s “Behind the Flying Saucers.” This item is not documented anywhere else, as far as I can find. It’s a 1951 bulletin from Temple Emanuel Brotherhood, a synagogue in Beverly Hills. It announces a lecture on flying saucers that Frank Scully will be conducting for the Brotherhood at a restaurant in Santa Monica. Price of admission was $2.50, which would be close to $35.00 in today’s money. The writer of the bulletin says “Our October 16th meeting will be highlighted by a talk by Frank Scully, noted author and wit, on the subject of ‘Flying Saucers.’ Mr. Scully, as you know, is the only dependable authority on this imaginary subject. His latest book, ‘More Fun in Bed,’ proves his versatility and indicates to us that we can expect an unusual evening.” I have all of Scully’s personal author’s copies of his “Fun in Bed” series that I’ll post again later. One of them is even bound in a bedsheet with his name hand cross-stitched on front, and an inscription from him inside the front board.

Original Australian UFO Newspaper Archives | 1955–1983 A look inside my collection of six original Australian newspaper archive folders containing approximately 1,000 UFO-related newspaper clippings, along with handwritten research notes and early flying saucer publications. These folders document decades of UFO sightings, alleged encounters, investigations, and newspaper reporting from 1957 through 1983. What makes this collection especially interesting is where it came from. According to the person who rescued the files, they were discovered in the basement of a former NEWS newspaper building in Adelaide, Australia. Thousands of old newspaper files were reportedly scattered throughout the basement or sitting in industrial bins awaiting disposal. He saved these UFO folders before they could be thrown away. The building reportedly burned down about a year later, potentially destroying much of the material left behind. Adelaide's The News was also the newspaper where Rupert Murdoch began building his media empire. The collection includes early issues of Australian Saucer Record, including Volume 1, Number 2, published in 1955 by the Australian Flying Saucer Research Society. Alongside the newspaper clippings are handwritten research notes, UFO sketches, and reports covering cases from Australia and around the world. These are original period materials, not modern reproductions. I've since placed the documents in archival sleeves with acid-free backing boards to help preserve them for the future. It's unfortunate to think how much historical material may have been lost, but I'm glad these survived. All photographs are from my personal archive. #UFO #UAP #UFOHistory #UFOArchives #AustralianUFOs

@bpleasies and I joined @RobertSkvarla's new venture Neither Confirm or Deny to talk about a classic X-Files episode and an array of interesting findings about alien abduction and related topics. Check it out:
NEW Neither Confirm Nor Deny 👁️⃤ @TannerFBoyle1 and @bpleasies join me to kick off a recurring series where I explore the parapolitics of The X-Files. We start with "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" and dive into the Men in Black and Jolly West's interest in alien abductions.

Frank Scully has this comic clipped out and tucked in his 1950s Behind the Flying Saucers scrapbook. It’s pretty racist by today’s standards. It was produced by a well known Latino comic artist of the 1940s-1950s named Gus Arriola. He was best known for this Gordo series. Scully obviously took a liking to this specific strip for its saucer content. Second pic shows Arriola in 1949. Snazzy fella.

1995 Chan Marshall playing “Rockets”. My favorite song from her catalog, and an early live rendition.

You’ll like this one @PaulTiberius. I was going through Frank Scully’s old scrapbook from the 1950s for the millionth time, and found this small clipping talking about the publishing dates of Keyhoe’s book versus Scully’s. This one says Keyhoe’s book came out first, which tracks with me. The weird part is that it appears Scully hand cut and glued a different date on the clipping. Just noticed this for the first time a minute ago, haven’t even thought out the hows and whys yet.

Elliott Smith on a morning show in 1995. Featuring young Tom Bergeron and a puppet. Elliott is so uncomfortable and perfect in the full vid. Exactly as you’d expect him to be.

A wonderful 1996 tomboy-era Chan Marshall performance of “Nude as the News”. The drummer in this clip is Steve Shelley from Sonic Youth. He was an early adopter and promotor of Chan, he very much helped launch her career in various ways. Cute little sitch.

🛸Fox News Origins — The UFO Files from Rupert Murdoch’s First Newspaper | South Australia | 1957–1983 These were the UFO files kept inside the old News Ltd building in Adelaide, where Rupert Murdoch began building the media empire that would eventually include Fox News. These folders were the UFO file from that newsroom. Six original folders labeled “Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO),” dated by hand: 1957–June 1959, 1968, 1969, 1978, 1979–80, and 1981–83. Before the internet, this is how a newsroom kept track of UFO stories. Roughly a thousand original newspaper clippings from Australia and around the world, many still showing their mastheads and dates, along with about 40 pages of handwritten reporter notes. The notes include case times, locations, saucer sketches, and follow-up information. These are the actual working files and notes kept by the newsroom, not material compiled years later. A pretty incredible piece of Australian UFO and newspaper history to have survived together. #UFO #UFOs #UAP #UFOTwitter

In 1952, inside a secret laboratory in Maine, a doctor entered a trance and allegedly made contact with something calling itself “The Nine.” For decades, the same mysterious intelligence would reportedly speak through people around the world. Who- or what- were they? Benevolent entities? Something darker? Or part of an elaborate experiment in manipulation and mind control? THE NINE TAPES investigates the mystery through original recordings, documents, and never-before-heard tapes dating back to the 1950s. Coming soon.

Been sick as a dog for three days. Started looking my old George Van Tassel “Proceedings” issues again. First one I picked up was a 1957 issue that was mailed to OG crash/retrieval researcher Leonard Stringfield. It featured content about UFO contactee Howard Menger’s photos/books, which were somewhat recent at the time. The next issue I picked up was one that was mailed to that same fella, Howard Menger. It was a much later 1975 issue, mostly featuring Integratron material. I just thought it was beautiful being connected to these UFO people that I like, in oblique, spider-webey ways.
