Meeting DON NORMAN (eeep!) felt like meeting the very foundation of everything | do as a designer. The man who made us understand the value of human centric design before most people even knew what the term meant is still questioning, learning and inspiring, even at 88!

I won’t hire designers to do what bots can do: make screens. I’ll hire designers who can do what bots can’t: question the output, challenge the obvious, and bring taste to the final product. Execution is getting automated. Judgment is the real design skill. Agree, or am I crazy?

People are innately lazy and for a product to feel magical it needs to allow them to be lazy - their natural selves. But in doing this we also add to the universal laziness. Thoughts?

Came across this banger video from @robonuggets on how to be more ambitious to get a 10x efficient output. What ā€œambitionā€ really means here: 1. Altitude: Define a goal beyond the task to allow the model to come up with more efficient or creative ways to solve a problem
1

271
2. Depth: Instead of saying ā€œdo this like a top industry professionalā€, ask the model to use the actual tools and methods used by industry professionals

3. Range: Think laterally by assembling a crew of agents (including a devil’s advocate) with varying perspectives to find the unknown unknowns
2

2. Range: Have agents split a job across several helpers including a red team with varying POVs to figure out unknown unknowns

3. Depth: Don’t ask the model to act like a professional but insist it actually uses the tools and methods used by real industry experts

Why is everyone looking for ā€œcrackedā€ designers these days? What does that even mean? I think I’m a damn good designer (only because my seniors and mentors have always vouched for me), but I wouldn’t necessarily call myself cracked, you know?
