@ShunaSnow We came to see The Swell not once but twice. Hard to put into words the profound effect it had on my 88 year old mother, who was moved by the entire experience: the poetry, the humour, the time-shifting angst. Hope you are all proud of this utterly brilliant production

Yikes. Sometimes a piece of art comes along that is like a comforting arm around the shoulder, a hug, or a whispering reassurance of who you are. A piece of art you can see yourself reflected in. This afternoon was one of those moments. A fiercely compassionate, gentle … ⬇️

…tender, unflinching yet subtle piece of work that encompasses everything: Friendship, honesty, self and that most important commodity of all - Love. I connected on every level with this story. And I cannot thank everyone involved with this masterpiece enough for that. 👏🏻♥️

We had a q&a last night which raised a thought worth sharing: some have said The Swell isn’t ‘about’ being queer. I think what they mean is that often queer stories = queer trauma. The Swell is not that. It’s about queer love, which is joyful complex & universal. And no one dies!

I talked to the excellent Isley Lynn about her new play The Swell, which opens this week at @OrangeTreeThtr, telling stories that have never been told before, and the impact of the @WomensPlayPrize on her career.
.@IsleyLynn’s work so far covers eating disorders, sex conditions and queer love. She tells The Stage about the narratives that are meaningful to her, gender inequality and how the Women’s Prize for Playwriting has changed her career bit.ly/3PsgfGB
