I know this is a problem for the programming languages research community as a whole and not just SIGPLAN-M, but I'd love to reach more interested potential and current programming languages researchers in Africa and the Middle East. Happy to hear ideas
Here's where we are with SIGPLAN-M for @PLDI 2024. Excited to have new mentees and mentors! We would love more mentors; please do sign up using the registration form on our website! If you're worried about seniority, remember that graduate students make wonderful mentors!

As many of you may have noticed recently, we are a bit behind on check-in emails. Sorry about this! These should resume in July.

Here's where we are leading up to SPLASH 2023! We have seen an extended global reach for mentees, primarily in South America. We have also seen growth in the number of mentees, but the number of mentors have been stable. We are badly in need of new mentors. Please sign up!

I've been @numerics_lambda's SIGPLAN-M mentor for a while and today I finally go to meet him for lunch after many video link interactions. After graduating from the University of Michigan he is starting at Lawerence Livermore Labs here in the Bay Area. I can strongly recommend becoming a SIGPLAN-M mentor for the fantastic opportunity it provides to mentor junior researchers and practitioners in the general area of programming languages. Mentors have many different backgrounds, and I try to share my experience of having been a researcher in industry, having made the move from being a university researcher for a while. sigplan.org/LongTermMentorin… A wonderful initiative created by @TaliaRinger and currently led by @polikarn and a great team and advisory board. Industry PL people, consider becoming a SIGPLAN-M mentor!

Also, we acknowledge that PLDI and FCRC are being held in a place that is unsafe for our transgender community members. If you cannot make it because of this, we miss you greatly, and we hope that future conferences will avoid unsafe states like Florida.

But it often really helps just to have some time set aside to talk to your mentor or mentees! 🕐
