British caricatures in the late 18th and early 19th centuries were full of fanatical tropes to degrade political radicals. One such victim was Thomas Paine, whose radical egalitarian and democratic writings were linked to Satan himself!

Maybe it’s that Paine was a rentier of Philadelphia with limited money and these guys held positions of authority, large amounts of wealth and land, and therefore had a vested interest in a system that would maintain the ruling class’ authority?

You cannot be pro-Israel while pro-peace and pro-'democracy'. Israel is a genocidal state that has subjugated Palestinians under both 'liberal' and right-wing PMs. You guys either have no fucking principles or are ignorant of the explicitly ethnosupremacist foundations of Israel.
