Hard not to root for Khristian Curtis. Early in his career, Curtis underwent what turned into a botched right elbow surgery. Stitches were placed through a nerve, causing significant nerve damage. Every time he threw a baseball, the nerve was being damaged further. When he returned to the mound, he lost all feeling from his elbow down to his fingers during his first start back. Nerve conduction tests showed no response whatsoever. He eventually underwent a second surgery. While Curtis was in the operating room, doctors told his parents there was a possibility he might never throw a baseball again. Curtis told us during his first pro season that the nerve damage was so severe he couldn't feel the baseball with certain fingers. At that time, he still had minimal feeling in his pinky and ring finger. Considering everything he's overcome, it's impossible not to root for him every time he takes the mound.
