A year and a half of crazy ideas, experiments, mistakes, changing direction, and chasing whatever felt fun.
Somehow, all that chaos became A Weird Village.
This journey feels unreal 🖤
And I'm only halfway there 🫠

I'm working on the game teaser.
It will be in-game rendered, will take a lot of time, will be hard, will be glorious 😆
Basically i'm teasing the teaser here.

Today i had fun experimenting with the main menu and character selection for my allegedly cozy game!
I really wish i could dev this game 24/7 😊

Why let your friends' perfectly good bones go to waste when they could follow you around?
If you unlock Rattle Army you can raise your own cozy army of skellies!

My game is absolutely cozy.
The players are the problem.
Here's the new CC ability.

Your game doesn’t look like shit.
Your post-processing does.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The post's video attributes missing shadows and base lighting to post-processing, but these are core rendering features applied before post effects (e.g. bloom/fog); the creator admitted the "without" version also disabled shadows via a linked component.

How i destroy my game.
A Weird Village is a cozy little place, then players get involved 🫠
Forests can burn, buildings can collapse, everything can be destroyed, the ground gets torn apart... and none of it gets fixed or disappears during the game.
I want every battle to leave scars on the world, every action should become part of the history of that match. Mayhem and aftermath 🔥
By the end of a game, i want the map to tell the story of the chaos happened there.
Double production time but... what do you think?

I'm having WAAY too much fun making this game 🪨💀
Meet Dreadstone, the second ultimate ability you can unlock in my cozy little mayhem.

This is me when things refuse to work 😈
Anyways, i don’t mean that everything will be destructible.
I mean EVERYTHING which can be destroyed, can be destroyed.
War will leave its mark on the whole village.
What begins as a quiet, cozy world
will end in blood, debris, fallen trees, burning structures, and lifeless bodies.
A place shaped by warmth,
slowly rewritten by conquest.
The hunger to conquer changes the world.

Feeling very autumnal this week for the #colour_collective with some leaf post flying through the air. Happy Friday! 🍁 🍂 🍃

Introducing the ruins, right at the center of A Weird Village.
This is going to be one of the most important contested areas on the map. Both teams will fight to control it, but there's more than just holding it: you'll also be able to get your hands on special artifacts that unlock new abilities and upgrades... or defend the ruins to stop the enemy team from getting them.
Also, I accidentally triggered Hellfire before recording and set the whole place on fire.
Oh well. 🫠🔥

Realized that the nights in game were way too dark, so I tried adding some street lanterns.
I actually really like how they turned out! Gonna add more, mixed with a few torches here and there.
Next up: working on the team camps and finally making resources useful for upgrading bases and characters.
Lots of stuff to figure out, but it's slowly starting to come together! 😊

After looking at WoW Forever i wanted to add volumetric lightning and fog so i spent the weekend on this.
Here's a test in different hours of the day. Honestly, i don't know if i should keep it or not, i don't even know if i like it, maybe i'll let players switch it on / off.
Dunno. Need to sleep on it.

A Weird Village has reached that point where I need to stop winging it and actually plan the next steps.
The scope started small and is getting bigger that planned, and if I don't get my game development pipeline in order now, things will spiral out of control.
So, a few days of planning instead of adding random cool shit 😂
