I used to believe that people could do what they like to their bodies, I was a true libertarian. But then came trans and I realised how many unscrupulous surgeons there are. How many medical procedures are carried out with poor outcomes and high rates of complications. You can point to someone like this and say "he's a grown up, his body his choice." And in practical terms who is to say when a mutilation like tattoos or piercings go too far? I just don't want to live in a society that pretends that this extreme behaviour is normal or acceptable. We don't allow people to ruin their lives with Fentanyl. If your best mate told you they had just started smoking crack you would feel you had a duty to intervene. I don't know why we act like extreme body modification gets a free pass. Just as it's fine for someone to enjoy the occasional bender, a tatoo or a bit of lip filler is fine. But chopping your tits off, or getting size triple G tits and a Brazillian butt lift and a face filled with Silicone? Body dysphoria exhibits itself in many ways. While certain forms like annorexia are understood by society to be harmful, others get a free pass. Body builders or men who mutilate their bodies like this are victims the same way as girls who get masectomies are. I'm not being judgemental or prudish when I say this is mutilation, just as I'm not when I say starving yourself to look like a skellington is wrong. We should be asking what happened to this man to drive him to behave like this? What kind of psychological trauma makes a man want to look like an alien?
