New video up. Bit of a later upload today.
And today's video is about the SKS being once again at the top of everyone's to-do list. But it's also about the nature and legality of the gun bans themselves as last week's video about the R9 showed me that quite a few people really have no idea how any of that works, and how it's going to be relevant to whatever happens next with the SKS.
How Canada bans firearms and will the SKS soon be next? youtu.be/_Wp28S-LGAI?si=cq7i… via @YouTube
No amount of tragedy justifies persecuting innocent people. Not in a free country anyway.
You want me to support harsher penalties for gun violence or mass shooters? I'm in. I'm 100% in. I'd probably go farther with punishments for that than you would.
No one is advocating for more mass shootings. What we're advocating for is leaving us 2.5 million innocent and peaceful Canadians alone.
We are not mass shooters.
We are not mass shooters in waiting.
Putting me in prison doesn't prevent mass shootings.
Putting me in prison doesn't make society safer.
The things you claim to be trying to stop isn't being done by the people you're trying to put in prison.
"statistically rare shootings"
Why not spell it out?
MASS SHOOTINGS
Tell us #CCFR: How many mass shootings are required before one can justify gun control?

Our government and our courts, as a matter of course, are opaque. They say "Oh, we're very transparent", but it is completely false. Open courts is not "Well, if you can take the day off and travel you can observe" or "If you spend thousands of dollars you can get a transcript". It's taking every effort to make something available.
Whenever anything happens, the government response is to keep silent and pretend that this is good enough.
And once upon a time, the mushroom strategy worked great for the government and the courts.
Now, it just means that anyone with a rumour they want to spread can spread whatever and that's what fills the gaps.
It's time for the government and the courts to adopt real transparency.

… you can tell a lot about people by the way they react and post after a tragedy.
I’m grateful and disgusted at the same time 🇨🇦
I finally had some time to watch this interview and it's kind of shocking how little this advocate knows about Canadian gun laws and gun owners. Everything he advocated for, all the changes he thought Canada should receive - every single one of those laws already exists and has existed for decades.
With the exception of 1 thing. He thinks people shouldn't have shotguns or 'high velocity firearms'... but he also insists that they aren't coming after hunters and farmers and no one is trying to take away their guns... but also that federal legislation should be about banning guns.
Also, he insists that Canadians have access to "heavy weaponry". Good times.
I might do a critique video about this interview because almost everything he said was flawed in some manner (no real surprise there) but being that this interview primarily focuses on the suicide and mental health issues, YT probably wouldn't like that much.
The CDPG (Canadian Doctors who hate gun owners) sent one of their best to @tvo for an interview.
Highlights:
▶️says killing with a gun is a one way thing (also applies to all deaths, that’s how it works)
▶️ talks about street violence but focuses on legal owners instead
▶️says 69% of gun deaths are suicide (guns only account for about 15% of all suicides but they don’t care about the rest)
▶️brings up the Danforth shooting (tragedy by an unlicensed madman with illegal guns)
▶️says the don’t want to take away people’s guns (demonstrably false)
▶️says the term “law abiding citizen” is ridiculous 🫠
▶️says we need safe storage laws (already exist)
▶️says people who pose a risk shouldn’t have guns (already the law)
▶️says nobody needs “military grade heavy weapons” and he doesn’t drive a tank (banned since the 70’s)
As usual, they trot out a radiologist (who I’m sure is an expert in his field, just not this one) to comment on stuff he has no clue about.
Some things never change 🇨🇦🙃👨🏼⚕️

New video up. This is the first one in almost 2 months. Been a minute.
This time I share some of my own thoughts about the recent news regarding the Sterling Arms R9 and its impending change in classification. It's a much more nuanced and problematic discussion than most people realize, and relabeling the R9 as a "pistol" (Handgun) is way more troublesome than you would think it would be.

For years, Ottawa has insisted that increasingly sweeping firearms restrictions are necessary to keep Canadians safe. But across the country, provinces and territories are increasingly recognizing that Ottawa’s approach is also about property rights, responsible firearms ownership, northern culture, and the role of government itself.
This week, Yukon took an important step by tabling Bill No. 11, the Yukon Firearms Act. The proposed legislation would establish a dedicated firearms advocate to represent lawful firearms owners, promote firearms education and safety, and provide a direct voice for owners within the territorial government.
Yukon has already made its opposition to Ottawa’s firearms confiscation program clear. The territorial government has pointed out that the federal program targets licensed, vetted citizens—including hunters, outfitters, sport shooters and First Nations—and fails to recognize the realities of life in the North.
For Yukoners, firearms are not an abstract political issue. Hunting, trapping, harvesting, sport shooting and living safely in remote communities are part of everyday life.
Yukon is now putting that recognition into action.
The National Firearms Association welcomes the Yukon government’s decision to stand up for its citizens, their property and their way of life.
The message from Whitehorse is clear: the North is different—and its citizens deserve to be heard.

Of all the twisted, sordid details of this horrific crime, the disgusting perps, the 3 years of planning and grooming, the lust for the death of children, the horrors perpetrated on this community, Poly here seizes the opportunity to use it to demand a ban a make and model of hunting rifle.
I can’t. It’s so gross.

Once again, the Gun Control Lobby is displaying a complete lack of understanding of already existing Canadian gun laws.
"The group is asking Ottawa... to ban any part that could make a weapon more deadly,"
That is already a law in Canada. That has been a law for many decades now. All bump stocks, switches, FRT's, auto-sears, FA conversion kits, or anything else you can dream up - it's all banned and has been banned for decades.
This is far from the first time they've advocated for new laws which are already the law. All they have is rhetoric. They have no idea what they're talking about and never have.

Extra Extra read all about it:
Conspirator Conspired!
For real though. Poly was so close on this one. "An individual with known mental health problems had access to firearms..."
They just couldn't help but to tag on their irrelevant ideology at the end. Would this statement be any less concerning if the mentally ill individual only had access to pump action shotguns? Oh right... the pump action shotgun is also a tactical weapon of carnage and destruction in their eyes (Poly was hating on the 870 just last week xitter.cf/Polysesouvient/status/…)
More directly then @Polysesouvient;
Which firearms are okay for the severely mentally ill to have? Most LAGO's would argue there aren't any, but you seem to only take offence with the mentally ill owning specific types of firearms.
Investigators allege coconspirator could have reported shooter and saved lives. Instead, he offered advice, money and even a livestream of the killings. While the charges against Bryant are serious and should be pursued, they must not distract from the central fact: An individual with known mental health problems had access to firearms, including highly lethal military-style weapons and accessories.
Last weekend I went to the @CCFR_CCDAF meetup in Tisdale and met Rod for the first time in person. Unfortunately I ended up getting there pretty late, towards the end of the event, so we only had a few minutes to chat and snap a picture and shake his hand before he had to go.
But still, it was good to see him, and I bumped into a few fans of the channel while I was there.
So this is where the 41% of ASF's gathered comes from according to Rebel News:
"Owners declared just 68,793 of an estimated 166,555 individually held firearms targeted by Ottawa’s prohibition and compensation program, roughly 41%, according to a government response tabled in Parliament."
So, looks like the total changed once again. From 152k, down to to 126k, up to 166k total ASF's... on top of so many other random numbers over the years.
Again, whatever number they're using, is grossly inadequate. Realistic estimates put it around 2 million total ASF's. At the very least, the government knows of 126k Restricted ASF's, and non-restricted ASF's were far more common. Suggesting that there were only 30k non-restricted ASF's is an utterly ridiculous number.
But even by their absurdly low and ever changing numbers, they failed to get half of even that number. Most important to remember here, these are also just declarations. An unknown number of participants would have withdrawn from the program.
Ottawa's $742-million gun grab falls flat as just 41% of targeted firearms declared
The participation figures reflect declarations of intent, rather than confirmed collections or destruction. Of the declared firearms, 67,512 were designated for destruction and compensation, while 1,281 were slated for deactivation with a payment toward the expense.

Not sure where the 41% number comes from.
Latest numbers I saw from PSC indicate they got about ~68.5k declarations of their stated goal of 136k, revised down from 152k (cape breton PP) and 158k (gary in parliament).
We're looking at 43-50% depending on which numbers you care to use.
But that itself is a lie. There are VASTLY more ASF's in Canada than that. Most commonly cited number based on reasonable speculations and retail/import data is roughly 2,000,000.
The govt itself said there were 126,000 registered ASF's (cape breton PP). Those are the ones they know about. Most of the ASF's, by family and by volume, were previously non-restricted, meaning they are not registered. It's ridiculous to presume there are only 10,000-32,000 of them.
Even if you want to guess wayy low and say that there are only 1,000,000 ASF's in the hands of PAL holders, they only got declarations for less than 7% of them. And not everyone who declared is following through. Some unknown portion of them have since backed out.
So yeah. I'm really not sure where anyone gets this 41% number from.
For anyone who didn't read the not-so fine print...
"Please note that submitting a declaration does not guarentee compensation"
"All compensation amounts are final"
It was always their plan to rip us off. It just plain sucks buddy here had to find that out the really, really, hard way.
