If any St Andrews student is going to Q Manivannan’s event tomorrow (Q&A at Rector's Cafe, 3pm), this would be a great question:
“How come you have the time for events like this one, but not for holding surgeries for your constituents?”

If you are a consultant colluding with this sort of thing, whether a consultant* in a department, consultant* with a clinical service lead role, clinical or medical director* then ask yourself if this continues, what is the point of actual medically qualified consultants. You are killing the profession. Someone cannot work at dr consultant level without the training and experience of a consultant doctor. [* I mean actual medically qualified consultants]. I have no issue with specialist nursing roles and similar but not as doctor replacement, boundary blurring & title confabulation, confusing to staff & patients alike. I realise that radiologists are *currently* in short supply but this is not the way ahead.

The training program directors needs to remove all resident doctors from the medical and ED department.
If the trust are happy to substitute consultants with nurses in some dangerous experiment on patients is one thing. But involving doctors in training is quite another. A

The absolute nonsense levels of gaslighting that is happening around maternity care?
Is astonishing.
This country and its declining healthcare is heading towards an irreversible situation due to hubris.
And rank poor leadership.
Shameful.

Will the junior doctor pay offer be the end of the MRCP PACES?
This was the hottest topic of discussion amongst the consultants over the weekend.
I think it very likely. Let me explain why.

It's ready to drop but with it being an extremely unusual time, I want to make sure you're all aware.
So if this post gets 3000 likes before 9pm then I'll drop it on the hour.
Go.

Latest Comms dropped last night.
Took my time with this one and had a shed load of fun putting it together.
If you haven't seen it yet, or fancy watching it again, then have a ganders at it below.
Cheers everyone x

1,000 NHS training posts that were to be created for resident doctors have been cancelled by the Government, after the British Medical Association failed to meet a 48-hour deadline to call off industrial action next week.
The Prime Minister issued the ultimatum to try and stop the walkouts.

Surgery is a "wicked" environment: feedback is delayed, noisy, and often biased. My essay on why experience doesn't always equal mastery, and how to learn when the feedback loops are broken.

Medicine and public health have added three decades to the human lifespan. Vaccination alone produced 40% of the reduction in child deaths.
And now a disturbed and unqualified man driven by crackpot theories is destroying the foundations of this work, including CDC.

The @gmcuk left this platform because they knew their actions were indefensible
This is no longer a few doctors complaining
This is a profession wide rebellion against a regulator no longer performing its function
It’s time to listen, act & buy some goodwill @wesstreeting

The NHS is genuinely an awful employer.
It’s been a little over a year since I left and joined a GP practice and it’s been wonderful.
I look back at my time as a resident doctor, and particularly my time as co-chair of the BMA, and remember continuously reflecting on how bad things were.
Your concerns are legitimate.
The old guard doctors are often out of touch.
The media don’t have a clue.
The public can not comprehend.
The NHS says a lot of utter nonsense and take no action - they either don’t understand or don’t care.
THINGS ARE AWFUL FOR RESIDENT DOCTORS.
The lack of agency.
The lack of autonomy.
The disrespect.
The insane and illogical hoops you’re asked to jump through.
Everything you hate is legitimate.
Strike.
You’re justified in doing so.
✅ Better pay.
✅ Better conditions.
✅ Better opportunities.

Let me predict where this is heading:
1. @wesstreeting will shut down external applications ergo IMGs applying for training posts. And the exams too.
2. There likely will be a ‘pass’ for those IMGs already in system. Maybe.
3. Non-training posts will prioritise local grads - local grads will then find out how mostly appalling these non training posts are re training & support.
An absolute sorry state- not to mention sacrifice of IMGs- most here due to rules and PLAB exam being open- with no planning being done by those who should have.
We are here due to the ineptitude and callousness of @NHSE_WTE
And the lack of any spine or foresight from organisations purporting to be “IMG- defenders” while busy being pally with central bodies for their own business
You - collectively- (allegedly) leaders across Colleges, National health bodies should hang your heads in shame- more so as you play mental gymnastics around Unqualified people trying to cos play as doctors
And hope there is a special dose of Karma reserved for you - somewhere.
And yeah- I said what I said.
For shame on you all.
‘I’m a doctor but next year I won’t have a job’
In 2024, there were 12,743 training posts available, with 10,628 UK graduates and 14,868 international graduates applying

Will this make the GMC less accountable? Was it ever accountable? Does it listen to Doctors?

🏴 Scots pay:
✅ Less income tax
✅ Less Council tax
✅ Less Water Bills
Than they would in England - in return for a higher level of public services.
The UK parties want to bring Scotland in line regardless of the cost.
We can’t let that happen.👇
