I've added a bunch of new morpheme maps to the site this week: cure (care, heal, attend to) fer (carry, bear) man (hand) ped (foot) press (press) vive (live, alive) Do let me know if the maps are proving useful. 🙂 jwed.co.uk/morpheme-maps/

I made another thing: the morphemeLAB. Add morphemes to the board and combine them to build words. Snip them up again. Affixing patterns get applied automatically. I'd appreciate any feedback. 🙂 jwed.co.uk/morpheme-lab/

I know Latin & Greek roots is the cool morphology that gets all the attention, but I'd wager that teaching focused (at least initially) on the most common affixes would prove the more valuable for spelling development, such as these by Holly B. Lane, Linda Gutlohn, W. van Dijk.

First blog post in five years. It takes a look at what research evidence says about the teaching of morphology / etymology - which claims stack up and which don't. jwed.co.uk/blog/sold-on-voca…

I've added new morpheme maps and reworked them all. Add a 'built from' line... A word sum for deception might be: de + cept +ion. But I wanted a way of showing that deception is the result of deceiving not decepting. Hopefully, this does that. jwed.co.uk/morpheme-maps/ 🙂

The latest morpheme map is up on the site. #006 duct / duce (lead) One thing that has irked me in the past is that different spellings of the same root are on different maps. Now I can integrate them. Clicking on either spelling greys out the morphemes that don't apply. 🙂

Great morphology resource!
Some improvements to the interactive morpheme maps. When a word is generated from the word map, you are now provided with useful information about the word. 1/2 jwed.co.uk/morpheme-maps/

If anyone is still around who remembers the morphology resources I used to post, they are back as an interactive online tool. #001 ject (to throw) I'm testing it out at the mo but if people like them, I can add more (I have 200 of them ready to go). jwed.co.uk/tools/

English spelling is full of silent letters. Most are there for good reason — they were once pronounced. But some were added to make English look fancier — and others are actually 100% mistakes. Here's the strange history of the letters we write but never say... 🧵
