theres a reason all my notes are a variation of "come yap with me about (fandom/ship/character) on my twt!!"
my fics are the equivalent of me bringing a homemade pie to make friends. its not just empty words on a screen.
I think a lot of us AO3 authors not only publish for people to read... We do so because we also want to meet more friends that connect with the art we make. It sounds banal to say we write for other people to hear us and talk to us, but I think a lot of us do.
Just like someone doesn't speak to a crowd hoping to be ignored.
That's why interaction matters so much to us writers.
A part of this can also be a certain need to be loved and given approval. I won't deny that partly motivates me to write. That can be unhealthy, too.

Being an adult with no friend group that goes out is honestly so heartbreaking sometimes – at New York, NY

Being a writer is a very lonely passion bc it's not really something you can show to people. Like if you're a sculptor or a dancer or a painter then you can SHOW people what you do. They just have to sit there and watch. But to appreciate writing you actually have to. Read it.
