The Obama Presidential Center has cut down 303 mature trees in Jackson Park; 612 trees left to destroy. One in 8 kids in Chicago have asthma. South and SE Chicago residents have the greatest incidence of asthma. We need these trees. #TreesMakeAir #SaveJacksonPark
We tried Advisory Referendums in 2 surburbs at precinct level but were ruled against in lawsuit we bought against Village of Palos Heights. ๐ซฅ Running more Chicago precincts for the February 2027 election. We need a #ChicagoLakefrontNationalPark
Want to help? DM me. Worried about Potomac Park? We've got legalese against that which will be part of the legislation for a #ChicagoLakefrontNationalPark
- East Potomac Park (Washington, D.C.): The Trump administration cut down 430 mature trees at the East Potomac Golf Links.
- Jackson Park (Chicago, IL): The Obama Foundation's campus, as detailed by the OPC Site Tree Removal assessment, cut down 600-800 mature, legacy trees to clear the OPC site.
We need a #ChicagoLakefrontNationalPark.

Stop calling it a climate problem.
Call it what it is: organized greed.
The planet isnโt dying. Itโs being killed for profit.
The killers have names. And boardrooms.

See? Other people fight for trees, too. I wonder what would have happened if we had done this in the Women's Garden, Jackson Park. Ah well...

Save Jackson Park retweeted
A data center company wants to build on land inside a national park.
So they handed the park's top official a map of how to divide it up, and NPS's official boundary lines changed to match it.
Here's the plan. Highland Digital wants to build four 100 foot data centers and a substation in Triangle, Virginia, right next to Quantico Creek, a waterway that feeds directly into the Potomac River. Their genius move? Swap 73 acres of wetlands they can't build on anyway, for 36 acres of forest they actually can, forest that's currently protected federal parkland. Call it an even trade if you want. It isn't.
Nobody's said how much water four data centers this size would need, where it would come from, or where the wastewater would go. That's not a detail. That's an open question nobody in charge has bothered to answer yet.
Why this land specifically? Existing high voltage transmission lines already run through the area. For a data center, that's the expensive part solved for free, so they're trading wetlands they can't build on anyway for forest they can clear.
Can you believe this isn't even their first attempt? Highland Digital already tried this exact same data center, on this exact same site, at the county level. Severe public backlash forced them to withdraw their special use permit in May. So instead of taking no for an answer, they went straight to the federal government instead.
Here's what it looks like from where I sit: when the public got a say, they said no. So now it's happening somewhere the public doesn't get a say. Nobody's going to come out and admit that's the strategy. But that's exactly what's happened so far.
To make that happen, they hired Jeff Small, a former senior Interior Department official from Trump's first term, as their lobbyist. Meetings between Highland Digital and the park's top official started back in May 2025. By the time the story broke, Rep. Vindman (D-VA) had already been asking the Park Service whether it even has the legal authority to make this exchange without congressional approval at all.
An independent analyst who reviewed the deal said: even though the Park Service technically gains more acreage, "the developer comes out ahead." That's not just about acreage. It's about what's actually on that acreage.
This park is a designated Important Birding Area, home to 129 species of birds.
Doesn't matter anymore. Not to this administration. A mother bird could come back to find her nest gone, her chicks gone, the whole tree gone, and legally, under the rule they just finalized, that's not "harm." Not anymore.
Long before any of this, this park was called Chopawamsic, an Algonquian word meaning "divided streams." The Doeg people lived along these waters, and archaeologists have found their camps and tools along Quantico Creek, buried in the soil for over 10,000 years. They never got a say in what happened to this land either.
This isn't happening in isolation. In July 2025, Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to put data centers on federal land, and to skip full environmental review, the same review that would normally catch exactly these kinds of water and habitat concerns. One year later, this same administration finalized a rule removing "harm" from the ESA. And they plan on using both of those tools right here, at Prince William Forest Park.
This is how it works. Quiet meetings, informal agreements, deals shaped long before the public ever gets a say. We've seen this exact playbook before, water rights secured, meters tampered with, all before anyone outside the room even knew to ask a question. It's the same playbook in Texas right now, where Musk's SpaceX is angling for 775 acres of a wildlife refuge that's home to endangered ocelots.
Prince William Forest Park may be next in line. We have to guard our public lands, because this administration is attacking them, one quiet meeting at a time.

Please explain to me why Mayor Johnson is still committed to a lakefront Bears Stadium lakefront expansion that destroys 350 large trees which EACH sequesters, on average, 150 pounds of C02 per year. We need a #ChicagoLakefrontNationalPark

Urban tree canopy not only helps filter the air of CO2, SO2, PM2.5, tree canopy helps cool our air while making 02 for us to breathe. We need a #ChicagoLakefortNationalPark to save our lakefront trees from being clearcut by Redefine the Drive.
The planet doesn't negotiate. 2024 wasn't a warning shot; it was the bullet. Every 0.1ยฐC we prevent saves millions. We are the last generation with the power to rewrite this ending. The time for "later" is over. #ClimateEmergency #ActNow
Let the climate change hunger games begin.
Chicagoans: Advocate for saving your lakefront parklands. Stop Redefine the Drive. We'll need all our big trees to sequester CO2, etc. Also, invest in planting a 3" diameter tree and water it a lot. If you have Ash Trees in your neighborhood, it's up to you to save them since City of Chicago won't: saveyourashchicago.org/ Don't worry. It's easy. A 30-inch American Elm tree sequesters ~90 to 110 pounds of CO2 yearly & stores 20,400 pounds of CO2 inside its wood. It sure is hard to envision 1 lb of CO2 much less 20,000 pounds. Save your Ash trees. And we need a #ChicagoLakefrontNationalPark.

Just because we deserve to see trees. It's been some hard times for trees because of the winds we've been experiencing in Chicagoland. Do prune/remove broken branches. Consider fertilizing your tree. I fertilize my trees; they grow stronger and bigger faster. I recommend SavATree. It's an expense... but trees are part of our family, too.
Every ray of sunlight that reaches the forest floor passes through a living cathedral of trees. Protecting rainforests means protecting life, hope, and our planetโs future. ๐ฟ

Trump's suggesting using coal to power new AI centers in US (AP News). If we power 20% of new AI centers using coal, by year 10 airborne emissions of these AI centers will be roughly equal to the weight of 3,500 ๐๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ช๐ณ๐ฆ ๐๐ต๐ข๐ต๐ฆ ๐๐ถ๐ช๐ญ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ๐ด made entirely of CO2.
In Year 10 of continuous building, these coal-powered AI centers would dump a grand total of 1.30 billion ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ต๐ณ๐ช๐ค ๐ต๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด of CO2 into the atmosphere, with the yearly emission rate climbing to 4.84% of present-day U.S. carbon output. When you build new data centers every year, the numbers don't just add upโthey stack. The centers built in Year 1 keep running and emitting gas during Year 2, Year 3, and beyond, creating a compounding snowball effect.
5-Year and 10-Year Projections
Here is how the numbers stack up if the U.S. continues this building pace for one decade:
Timeline
New Centers Added
Yearly Emission Rate (METRIC TONS) / Year)
Share of Present U.S. Total
Total Accumulated CO2 in Atmosphere by Metric Tons (MT = Metric Ton)
Year 1 ~20 centers 23.71 Million MT 0.48% / 23.71 Million MT/
Year 5 ~100 centers 118.55 Million MT 2.42% / 355.65 Million MT/Year 10 ~200 centers 237.10 Million MT 4.84% / 1.30 Billion MT
The Cumulative Impact Broken Down
The Yearly Emission Pace:
By Year 5, the data centers built up to that point are pumping out 118.55 million metric tons of CO2 annually.
By Year 10, that annual pace doubles to 237.10 million metric tons every year.

Real-World Scale:
That 10-year total is roughly equal to the weight of 3,500 Empire State Buildings made entirely of compressed greenhouse gas.
Thanks to Gemini for doing the math... and thinking, this is a very bad idea.
