Only Jews are required to apologize amidst their grief. These statements from @NYCMayor, @SadiqKhan, et al, are morally repugnant.
wow, the Mayors are queuing up to make sure we don't get to grieve without offering an apology. After a drive-by gesture of regret Mamdani proceeded to contextualise us to death and without ever uttering the J word . J people not allowed their own mourning even when massacred, mutilated, raped, abducted .

Call me cynical, but I think that this so-called division in the anti-Israel camp is engineered to make Mamdani look more moderate.
The pro-Hamas protesters are furious with Mamdani for his greatest betrayal: allowing Israel to continue to exist.

You feed the crocodile in the hope of being eaten last but it will always eat you. Wake me up when the DSA primaries Lander and all his groveling to antisemites doesn’t help him.

The depravity of mourning the Palestinian dead on Oct 7th is akin to mourning Germans who died on ww2 ok Holocaust day. Palestinians deserve to be mourned - and to do it on Oct 7th disrespects their memories by making them into a cudgel to attack Jews.

Hamas started this war knowing that 1000s of Palestinians would die & they wouldn’t be blamed for it. If Hamas hadn’t been so sure of the reaction of ppl like @nycmayor, most likely they wouldn’t have done & 1000s of people would be alive today. They have blood in their hands.

I’d go a step further - Hamas did what it did because it knew that, not matter what, people like Mamdani would create a moral equivalence. Only that @NYCMayor not only equates them, he blames Israel MORE than Hamas.
You can have just a post marking the tragic October 7th massacre. You could save your selective ahistorical biased opinions on the whole history of Israel and Palestine (seemingly justifying October 7th) until say tomorrow. Your empathy could exceed your biases.

Important words from my friend @URJPresident - Rick always brings moral clarity to the places that most need it.
Rabbi Rick Jacobs, head of the Union for Reform Judaism, on Mamdani’s Oct. 7 statement: “Turning this anniversary into an indictment of the Jewish state is not only hurtful, and deeply offensive, but it also makes Jewish New Yorkers less safe”

.@NYCMayor does as the Westboro Baptist Church does at funerals of gay people and US soldiers; they try to rob them of their grief. For just ONE day, he can't let Jews grieve in peace - he needs to use that precise day to attack them.

This is the 5th or 6th time Lander has mentioned/used Rachel Goldberg-Polin’s book for political purposes. He showed up early at her book event at CBE, made the rounds to say hello & then left in the middle of her talk. There’s nothing sincere or genuine about this. @JonPolin20

Putting terrorists and aggressors on the same moral plane as their victims and targets is repugnant. At best it whitewashes horrible crimes, at worst it feeds the culture of murder and martyrdom that Hamas espouses.
This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss. The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes. Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment. To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity.

I'm not posting something about the Oct 7th anniversary, because for me, like for many others, that day hasn't truly ended. Part of me is still stuck on that nightmarish day. One day, perhaps, I'll look at it as something of the past that we commemorate with an anniversary.

Imagine doing a post to commemorate Pearl Harbor in which 10% is about Pearl Harbor and the rest condemns the American response against Japan and Germany using lies and tropes.

"Epistemic antisemitism is so pervasive that we take it as natural—we have become accustomed to having most Jewish complaints about antisemitism dismissed as false, exaggerated, “weaponized,” or “an attempt to shield Israel from criticism.” Worth reading in full:

The comments making this about free speech are deliberately gaslighting. Nobody is censoring that antisemite-he can (and did) publish whatever he wants. Freedom of speech is NOT freedom of reach. If I write anything, can I demand the NYT publishes it, and if not cry "free speech"
