It is really encouraging to see India preparing to take a more systematic approach to grassroots talent identification. This is a welcome step, and a wonderful opportunity to build something meaningful for the future of Indian sport.
As we begin this journey, I feel there are some important questions worth thinking about. Because behind every test, every assessment and every number is a young child with a dream.
When we assess two 14-year-olds, are we always comparing talent, or are we sometimes comparing biological maturity? One child may be stronger, faster or better coordinated simply because they have developed earlier. How do we distinguish that temporary advantage from long-term potential? And could the child who seems less promising at 14 turn out to be exceptional at 23?
Are we measuring only what a child can do today, or also their ability to learn, adapt and improve? How do we account for differences in nutrition, family circumstances and access to coaching? A child who has never received structured training may not perform as well as one who has had years of support. But does that necessarily tell us who has greater potential?
Should we be tracking growth and maturation over time, so that training, recovery and injury prevention reflect how each child is developing rather than simply how old they are? And can we give grassroots coaches the knowledge and tools to recognise these differences, especially during the rapid changes of adolescence?
There is also something important to consider about opportunity. If a child develops early, performs well and is selected, that child naturally receives better coaching and greater exposure. But what happens to the child who develops later? How do we make sure that one assessment doesn’t quietly close a door that might have opened a few years later?
How do we keep children engaged, motivated and believing in themselves when their development takes a little longer? And how do we recognise the different needs of girls and boys, athletes with disabilities, and children pursuing different sports?
Perhaps we should also follow these young athletes over the years, learning which early qualities really translate into senior excellence, why some progress while others leave sport, and how we can keep improving the decisions we make.
These are not questions about what is right or wrong. They are worth asking because we have an opportunity to build this system with care, science and a real understanding of the children it is meant to serve.
A child who is not the best at 14 may still have everything it takes to become extraordinary at 24.
As India begins this important journey, I hope we build a system that not only recognises talent, but has the patience to nurture it, the wisdom to look beyond immediate results, and the compassion to ensure that a child’s dream is never defined by a single day of testing.
All the very best Sergio. I hope you can stay true to the kid in you who grew up wanting to improve at the sport, and he better every day. Good luck.

Meet India's international man of mystery - Arkesh Bhatia.
The mid-amateur lives in Dubai. Went to college in the US. Won 4 events in Serbia.
Best of all, he plays right-handed, but cools down left-handed!

The gift of Sindhu will continue giving to Indian sport.
Amazing week, Sindhu.
Silver in Paris 🥈❤️
Of course, I wanted the gold. But there’s a part of me that’s just really happy to feel all those long days, difficult losses and endless hours of work finally beginning to mean something. I’ve missed this feeling more than I can explain. ❤️
An se Young , keep shining. You’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, and it’s a privilege to share the court with you.
To my team, you know what it’s taken to get here. Thank you for never giving up on me, even on the days I struggled to believe in myself. We have so much more to chase 🫶
And Paris, what can I say? You’ve given me another reason to love you.
Je t’aime, Paris 🇫🇷❤️

You are a champion Eddie. The tour is better for your golf and wisdom.
Let us rest up, and get it done in Q School. Cheering for you.
Now, @seancrocker11, that is how you do it. Big balls, minerals you could say. Very well done.
You can buy me a bourbon when I next see you. 🥃
Congratulations @vanikapoorgolf on a fantastic week @AndDlf
So lovely watching some of your best. Well done.
Sean Crocker had to dig deep on that back nine to save his job for 2027. Remarkable 29 under the weight of the circumstances
“It’s not easy being a Tour player, being away from my family, especially when you’re on the bubble. Obviously I’m not the only person but the last thing you want to do is start a little family and then get demoted or lose some of your playing rights.
“I was obviously thinking about his future, making sure my wife doesn’t have to get a job! It was definitely on the back of my mind and I’ve also got Stevie to take care of. There’s lots of things that weigh on our shoulders when we’re out there playing golf.”

George was simply brilliant here in explaining the conflict between a Russia and Ukraine and its broader implications
That particular moment when George Yeo, Singapore’s former foreign minister, demonstrated a remarkably deep understanding of European history and the complex conflicts that have shaped the continent,an understanding that seems to elude many Western politicians.
It is genuinely rare to hear a senior statesman speak with such historical depth, intellectual clarity, and geopolitical insight.....
Neeraj is such a gift for Indian sport.
The two of them keep giving to a world that often does not deserve their class and courage.
Take care @Gael_Monfils and @ElinaSvitolina ♥️❤️🩹
