On 1/6/61 a fire at the Thomas Hotel in San Francisco killed 20. A mattress fire was started by a careless smoker. The FD was NOT initially notified as the fire was thought to be out. Stairwell doors being left open contributed to the rapid spread. #FireHistory #NeverForget
