Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora have provided the following update on the Pope’s postoperative recovery:
This morning, the Holy Father underwent the blood tests and chest X-ray scheduled after surgery. The results confirm that his postoperative recovery is progressing normally: the values are within the expected range for the type of operation performed.
The Holy Father has undergone respiratory physiotherapy and has begun walking around his room. He has resumed eating normally and had breakfast and lunch.
His recovery is proceeding as expected.

🙏 A moment to give thanks.
Bishop Mark Davies welcomes the decisive rejection of the Assisted Dying Bill, thanking MPs who stood against the “seismic change” it threatened to bring to our society.

From the Canaanite woman we learn humility and determination. Thanks to her faith, we learn that God’s table is set for everyone and that no one is left merely with crumbs, because each person has his or her own place with the Father. In the light of this faith, inequalities, discrimination and barriers that trample on the dignity of too many of God’s sons and daughters become unbearable. #GospelOfToday (Mt 15: 21-28)

I have to admit my prayers were a bit more fervent today, because it's the feast day of St. Maximillian Kolbe. You ever heard of him? He was a priest from Poland, and he was arrested by the Nazis because he dared to speak out against them. Here's somebody who believed Jesus when He said that a greater love than this no one has than to lay down his or her life for another. @thegnewsroom

A big thank you to our school governor and retired doctor, Dr McDermott, for visiting our class today to share his career as part of our People Who Help Us and Local Heroes learning. The children learnt so much and loved exploring the medical equipment he brought in 🩺

"God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him” (1 Jn 4:16). This is the heart of the Gospel, the heart of Christ. Whoever immerses themselves in it no longer lives for themselves. I give thanks for the abundant witnesses of faith and charity I have experienced on this #ApostolicJourney to #Spain.

The Holy Spirit opens the door of our heart, helping us to overcome resistance, selfishness, mistrust and prejudice, while enabling us to live as children of God and brothers and sisters to one another.

Without the fire of the Spirit, the Church remains a prisoner of fear, timid in the face of the world’s challenges, closed in on itself, and thus also incapable of entering into dialogue with changing times. #Pentecost

With fervent hearts, let us pray today that the Spirit of the Risen One may save us from the evil of war, which is overcome not by a superpower, but by the omnipotence of love. Let us #PrayTogether that God may free humanity from misery, which is redeemed not by immeasurable wealth, but by an inexhaustible gift.

The Spirit opens the doors of the Church so that it can be welcoming and hospitable to all, even to those who have closed their doors on God and neighbour, on hope and the joy of living.

In the first year of his pontificate, Pope Leo XIV has appealed hundreds of times for a reconciliation that is “unarmed and disarming,” and urged the “lords of war” to listen to “a melody greater than ourselves.”

As true God and true man, Christ offers us the example of self-giving, service, and love. We need His example to learn how to love, not because we are incapable of it, but precisely to teach ourselves and one another what true love is. Learning to act like Jesus, who is the living sign that God has placed within the history of the world, is the work of a lifetime. #HolyThursday
