Oakland A’s fans are like no other. Just watched the last game ever at the coliseum and now there’s a Beastie Boys singalong on the BART train 😂
Nothing like a feature on a major league pitcher who loved collecting Pokémon cards to make you feel 150 years old
I know it's petty but I'm honestly just so happy that we're now officially done for the year with my two least favorite baseball things: the Yankees god-awful two-strike submarine horn, and now, hallelujah, the Dodger dumb arm-wave thing when they get to second base. Go Brewers!
I think Joe Davis does a really solid job as an unbiased play-by-play guy in these NLCS games. I don’t mind him in the least (and I’m rooting with everything I have against the Dodgers lol)
Friday night lights in Palo Alto: the home team is up on Burlingame 28-7 midway through the third quarter. #SkoVikes
Tuned into the Red Wings game for a minute (spoiler alert: they’re not winning) and saw the Labatt slogan on the boards, which I’ve not seen before: “Brewed for the Roast.” Is that, like, a real tagline? It definitely doesn’t make me want to drink a beer lol. Maybe get some coffee. Or put something in the slow cooker.
If you’re wondering why Bucky Irving is going nuts tonight after underperforming the last three weeks, it’s because he’s on my opponent’s fantasy team
There’s just not that much in the sports world more entertaining than the faces and reactions of angry Yankees fans 😂
Yankees finally get a hit and Wells is thrown out by a mile trying to stretch a two-out double into a triple in a 1-0 game. Hard to find a more textbook definition of bad base running
Remaining playoff team rankings based on who I’d like to see win it all:
1. Padres
2. Brewers
Giant gap
3. Phillies
4. Cubs
5. White Sox
6. Rays
7. Red Sox
Another giant gap
8. Braves
9. Guardians
10. Yankees
11. Astros
12. Dodgers
Yesterday at our Stanford tailgate I had the absolute pleasure of a random encounter with 80-year-old Ron Gordon, who waged a successful campaign against a 5-cent increase on hot dog prices at Giants games at Candlestick Park in 1979. Gordon, a math teacher in Redwood City at the time, argued that the increase would result in exorbitant profits.
The fight was even chronicled in the New York Times: “His effort to have the increase rescinded became so tenacious that it attracted attention in Washington. President Carter's chief inflation fighter, Alfred E. Kahn, wrote him last month praising his ‘heroic and unflagging campaign’.”
The story goes on to explain that Gordon “apologized for not getting the commission to rescind the 5-cent increase on beer but offered his notes to anyone interested in continuing the fight.
“People say, ‘Well, it's only a nickel,’ but we're talking about a lot of nickels, 8.9 million extra nickels a year,” he said.”
What an honor this was. And a cool reminder that you should always talk to anyone and everyone; you never know when you’re gonna get an amazing story!
Sometimes I wonder if the people who are designing the yahoo fantasy apps are actually trying to figure out how to get fewer people to use them
