People forget that most poker pros never got into the game for the money.
Just like every other sport or passion, they do it becasue they love the game.
Money comes after, but that was never the point.
Winning for any competitive professional has intrinsic value that's hard to quantify.
Nobody says "Federer doesn't care about the $1M for winning Wimbeldon because he's barely 'profitable' as he had to fly private and pay his team, coach $700K, so he's really only up $300K".
He won the fucking Wimbeldon bro.

Thats fair enough. Battling through 5k players surely is nice. No doubt. What im saying is that his reaction shows that he didnt 1000x his buyin. He is now maybe up 300k YTD. Its not like a guy who saves up 1k and turn it into a mill overnight

We often hear players complaining that they're "unlucky" on GG and that MTT results seem much less consistent than on other sites.
There's 2 main reasons for this:
1) GGs structures in the late stages are some of the shallowest online. The consequence of this is that more hands are decided preflop. Which means most deep runs are decided by preflop allins rather than post-flop decisions.
2) GGs has by far the largest fields online. By the time you reach the late stages of an MTT there you've likely played many more hands than you would when reaching the final table on other sites.
This creates frustration, especially because when you lose, it's usually a cooler or flip.
The advice we give our players is:
Accept that this will happen.
Once you're prepared to face coolers because of the nature of the structure, you hopefully can get less emotionally invested in the results of any particular hand/MTT.
We encourage them to specifically focus on preflop spots. This is the most fundamental area you need to get right, because that's what you can control.
We encourage our players to do preflop drills on @GTOWizard to improve faster (we offer subscriptions for players through @cncpoker).
A lot of poker ultimately comes down to inuring yourself against the emotions that arise from winning and losing - the best way to do that is to be fully prepared for the decisions you'll face.

Small markup mistakes can torch money super fast.
Here's how the math works from a stakers's POV:
30% ROI player:
1.00 = +30%
1.10 = +18.2%
1.20 = +8.3%
1.30 = 0%
20% ROI player:
1.00 = +20%
1.10 = +9.1%
1.20 = +0%
1.30 = -7.7%
10% ROI player:
1.00 = +10%
1.10 = +0%
1.20 = -8.3%
1.30 = -15.4%
-10% ROI player:
1.00 = -10%
1.10 = -18.2%
1.20 = -25%
1.30 = -30.8%
Pricing an individual player in ANY specific MTT - accurately - is extremely difficult.
Should you max late register the @WSOP Main Event? I crunched last year's numbers to find out.
Now, this one's a bit trickier because late reg closes halfway through day two, but I only have data at day's end.
At the start of day two, 77% of the field remained, so starting stacks only appreciated by $200. Barely a blip.
At the start of day three, however, only 35% of the field remained, and a starting stack appreciates by over $1000.
So if all you do is show up late on day two, and hold onto your chips, you will freeroll the rake, and then some.
We also need to factor in that late reg advantage is paid for by earlier entrants. Those who showed up on day one are paying EV to the day two players.
My rough estimate is that a max late reg stack is worth approximately 8% more than entering on day one.
Not a bad deal for skipping 15 hours of play!

🎄 Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a grinder was stirring, not even a mouse.
The bankrolls were stacked by the chimney with care,
In hopes that big victories soon would be there.
While visions of chip stacks danced in your head,
We’re prepping a surprise to get you ahead.
This New Year, the tables will tremble in fear,
Because CNC Poker will make you a player to cheer.
So rest up tonight, but don’t stray too far-
The grind of 2025 is about to raise the bar.

Really interesting thread on why @GTOWizard is likely ahead in their database building, but everyone else will eventually catch up

they run and rerun sims all the time, weeding out unused betsizes and cleaning up trees constantly. It would be hard to be so precise on turn/river without a graveyard of postflop sims that got you there. This is very expensive and time consuming so how do they do it?
