Thank you to Superintendent @DrJillUnderly for delivering today's State of Education address and for the great folks at DPI who work hard to better our education system.
…of first responders lost their lives saving others.
On this day, we pause to remember the lives lost on 9/11 and honor the courage of the first responders and families who carry that grief every day.
A quarter of a century ago on the morning of September 11th, first responders rushed to Ground Zero after planes hit the North and South Twin Towers in New York City. Thousands of lives were lost and thousands more were severely endangered by the attacks; hundreds…
As one of the most prolific singer songwriters of our time as well as a PR/media genius, Dolly's generosity and humility will touch the lives of generations to come.
-Tomorrow is forever-
Dolly Parton embodied and celebrated the best of our country: an unwavering commitment to individuality and the harmony of our diversity. She was so radically welcoming of everything that is beautiful about life and the human spirit.
Nonetheless, I believe deeply in the value of independent oversight. When done right, these audits give legislators & the public the information we need demand better from our government & make sure our public institutions have the resources they need to serve Wisconsin well.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that the JLAC has at times been used partisanly by Legislative Republicans to further their agenda over the years I’ve been here. Auditing government should be about accountability, not about going after the public services Wisconsinites rely on.
I’ve learned a lot during my five years serving on JLAC. From audits of our fish & wildlife accounts to the Universities of Wisconsin, there has been no shortage of information about how these important systems work—and, just as importantly, where they can be improved.
The JLAC provides independent oversight of state government to ensure that taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly. The committee brings together key reps & senators to review audits of state agencies, programs, & public spending conducted by the State of WI’s Audit Bureau.
For three sessions, I have served on the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC), & I am now the ranking Dem on it. Not many ppl know what the JLAC does, so as I reflect back on my time in the Legislature, I thought it worthwhile to explain this little-known but important body.
This Black Business Month, I’m celebrating the Black-owned businesses that strengthen our neighborhoods and make Wisconsin a better place to live.
My first session in the Legislature, I served on the Assembly Committee on Small Business Development. It didn’t take long to see that while Wisconsin’s small businesses are important to our communities, not every entrepreneur has had the same opportunity to succeed.
Every policy we debate here in the legislature represents real people. It’s not enough to just speak to what we need; we also have to build towards our hopes and dreams, no matter how impossible they seem.
This Lake Appreciation Month, I’m thinking about the work that needs to happen both in the water and at the Capitol. Protecting Wisconsin’s lakes means investing in clean energy and policies that protect the natural resources we all depend on.
Happy Fourth of July! ❤️🤍💙
Fireworks will be lighting up the Wisconsin sky soon. Wishing everyone a safe and fun evening celebrating.
Wisconsinites deserve a clean environment, healthy communities, and easy access to the ballot. This session I voted for a sustainable healthy environment and scored 100 percent in Wisconsin Conservation Voters’ Conservation Scorecard!
The government should not decide if, when, or how someone starts a family. We must protect abortion rights and expand access to reproductive care here in Wisconsin, now and in perpetuity.
Four years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, rolling back our constitutional rights. While abortion is legal in Wisconsin today, access remains vulnerable without permanent protection in state law.
