We made history today!
Mamie Till-Mobley said, "Let the people see what they did to my boy." Today, Illinois is answering that call — we ensure that the lives of Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley will never be forgotten.

Special day in Illinois!
July 25th will now be known statewide in Illinois as a Day of Reflection and Remembrance for Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley. We understand here in our state that we cannot build a more just future if we are unwilling to confront the injustices of our past.

The only one attempting to rewrite history is you, @POTUS. The American people deserve museums guided by facts, scholarship, and integrity, not political ideology. Our nation’s museums must remain independent. Keep politics out of our history.
Breaking news: A new 162-page report from the White House, titled “Saving America’s Story,” accuses the Smithsonian‘s National Museum of American History of “extreme political activism” and blames museum leaders for erasing America’s heritage. wapo.st/4brivrw

This legislation honors Rev. Jackson’s vision that every young person enters adulthood with the tools and opportunity to participate in our democracy. By connecting voter registration opportunities with high schools, we are helping empower the next generation of civic leaders.

Proud to have the Merchandise Mart in the 5th district and call it home!
Today in 1930, the Merchandise Mart opened and became the world's largest building. It was originally built to centralize the wholesale operations of Marshall Field & Co. It was so large, it had its own zip code. #chicago #history

If we want a stronger democracy, we have to start earlier — meeting young people where they are and empowering them to participate. Onward. 🗳️ #HB4339 #CivicEngagement #YouthVote

Big win for civic engagement. HB 4339 — the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr. Young Voter Empowerment Law, is moving forward, bringing voter registration directly into the high school experience for eligible seniors.

Rep. Kim du Buclet (D-Chicago) told the committee that the measure is intended to foster civic engagement in young adults from the start by removing barriers to voting.    “For too long, voter participation has been treated as something young people are expected to figure out on

Today we honor that legacy and recommit ourselves to building a future where every woman has the opportunity to succeed. Grateful to work alongside so many remarkable women across Illinois who continue to move our communities forward. #internationalwomensday

This International Women’s Day we recognize the extraordinary women who lead in our homes, our communities, and our institutions. Progress has always been driven by women who were willing to challenge barriers and demand a seat at the table.

citizennewspapergroup.com/ne… DuBuclet said that a major barrier to young people voting is confusion on the process. That barrier is one of the reasons for the youth voter turnout gap. Voting should not be dependent on someone’s zip code or salary status, it should be open to everyone.
