Today, as we accompany our friend Stephen on his final journey and lay him to rest, there is a profound sense of sadness throughout our club. Over the past number of days we have shared stories, read countless heartfelt tributes and spoken with teammates, friends and opponents from every stage of Stephen's life. While every story has been different, they have all carried the same message, Stephen was someone who made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Stephen's footballing journey was woven into the story of Carrickmacross Emmets. As a young player, he shared in our All-Ireland Community Games Under 10 success in 1994 before helping the club to a County Under-16 League and Championship double. He later won the Minor League and Intermediate League in 2002 and helped Carrickmacross Emmets to Intermediate League and Championship doubles in 2006, 2011 and 2017, guiding the club back to senior football on each occasion. Stephen was also part of the team that won the Senior League in 2008 and played a central role in our run to the Senior Championship Final that same year. Few players have played such an important part in so many memorable days in the history of our club, and Stephen will rightly be remembered as one of the greatest footballers ever to wear the Emmets jersey. His talent was recognised wherever he played. An Ulster Colleges All-Star, a Rannafast Cup winner, captain of the Monaghan Under 21 team and a proud Monaghan senior footballer for 14 seasons, Stephen made 133 competitive appearances in the white and blue. He played a key role in Monaghan GAA Ulster Championship victories in 2013 and 2015, enjoyed National Football League success, winning Division 2 titles in 2005 and 2014 and the Division 3 title in 2013 during a distinguished inter-county career, and also experienced championship success with Chicago Wolfe Tones during his time there. His achievements earned him the admiration and respect of teammates, opponents and supporters wherever he played. But over the past few days, we have been reminded that Stephen's story was about far more than football. Time and again, people have spoken about his kindness, his selflessness, his generosity with his time and his willingness to help others. They have spoken about the conversations, the advice, the encouragement and the friendships that meant so much to so many. No matter what Stephen achieved, he never drifted away from the club he loved. He was still pulling on the Emmets jersey, still giving his time to coach our Under 10s, encouraging and inspiring the next generation with the same enthusiasm and patience that had defined his own career. For those of us who knew Stephen, none of this comes as a surprise. That was simply who he was. A brilliant teammate. A loyal clubman. A fierce competitor. A gentleman. Someone who carried himself with humility, led through his actions and made everyone around him better. Those qualities earned him respect wherever football took him, but they also earned him friendships that lasted a lifetime. Today, as we say our final goodbye, we know Stephen's legacy will live on far beyond the games he played and the honours he collected. It will live on in every young player he encouraged, every teammate who shared a dressing room with him, every coach he helped and every person fortunate enough to call him a friend. His passing has left an emptiness that words cannot express. We have lost one of our own, and our club will be all the poorer for his absence. To his wife Caroline, his children Ava, Shay, Grace, Sophie and Chloe, his parents Peter and Mary, his brother Ronan, the Gollogly & McCabe families, his great circle of friends and everyone who loved Stephen, we offer our heartfelt condolences. We hope they take some comfort in knowing the immense affection and respect in which Stephen was held, and that they remain in the thoughts and prayers of the entire Carrickmacross Emmets family.

They clearly focused on the big prize. No time for Provincial distractions. You'd have some craic watching that 5-15 going to war.

The difference between winning & losing to QF chances this weekend. Armagh are the only team who could lose and still be more likely to make it than not.

Not sure I've seen many more waiting in the long grass fixtures than Tyrone v Roscommon but the model doesn't agree! Lots of very close ones this week.
