I just got an unexpected round of rain while driving my delivery route. I said out loud, "Where's this rain shower coming from?" Not even 15 seconds later, I pulled behind a car with a window sticker that read "With God, all things are possible". Touché, God!!!!

This is my absolute favorite part of local news.
Channel 2 is making this young lady stand outside at 5:08am.
It’s 45 degrees.
There are zero people around.
The Steelers played a game yesterday 3,900 miles away from this stadium.
They don’t play another one there for six days.

Meet the Dunkers. They’re not from Iowa. These guys are from Germany and big fans of the Steelers’ OL.

For about a week, three people lived in the front seat of a U-Haul in a Walmart parking lot.
The mother drove. The older brother sat in the middle. The youngest slept against the passenger door.
They could not run the engine for the air conditioning, so in the afternoons they walked around inside the Walmart.
The kid against the door is six foot seven now. His name is Darnell Washington, he plays tight end for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and this morning in France he caught a touchdown in a Steelers win.
Mike DeFabo wrote the rest of it down.
The family had been evicted. He finished his freshman year sleeping on a friend's couch, and when that friend moved they packed the truck without knowing where they were going.
After the parking lot they scraped together enough for a few nights at a motel.
Here is how he says it.
"I was homeless a lot."
"I probably can't even put a number on how many apartments we lost."
The family moved every four or five months. He was in foster care until the third grade.
He enrolled at Desert Pines High School in Nevada as a sophomore and was selling raffle tickets for the football team when an assistant coach named David Hill found him in the weight room.
Hill asked where they were living. Then he started paying their rent out of his own pocket, chased down donated shoes, and sometimes put the family up in his own house.
Here is what Washington says about that.
"If he didn't do that, we'd be back on the streets."
In his first year at that school he won a state championship in football, a state championship in basketball, and a state title in the shot put.
Then Georgia, where he won two national championships and mostly blocked, because Brock Bowers was there and the ball went to Brock Bowers.
"When I wasn't getting the ball more, I had to embrace something."
The Steelers took him in the third round in 2023.
Now the brother. Ezekiel is a year older. He got straight A's, he ran training laps carrying a weighted pack, and Darnell says he always did the right thing.
Ezekiel joined the Marines.
So Darnell made him a promise. The first time he ever scored in the NFL, whatever else happened, he was going to salute.
In September of 2024 he caught a five yard pass against Denver for the first touchdown of his career, stood up in the end zone, and saluted.
"I saluted for my brother. He serves right now in Washington D.C."
"So I just told him the first touchdown, that's what I'm going do. So that's what I did."
Be straight about what he is. He caught 57 passes in his first three seasons combined. He is a blocker who scores about once a year, and this is his fourth season.
But in June the Steelers gave him four years and 42 million dollars, and a man who spent a week of his childhood sleeping upright in a parking lot does not have to wonder where he is staying tonight.
What is the smallest thing somebody once did for you that changed everything.

Epic 1970s NFL Halftime Show
A parade of goats and sheep, someone walking a penguin, go-karts, and a guy in a gorilla suit at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh.

As a kid, I was a little slow to the party recognizing his lack of hitting prowess. I used to chant "Clear the yard Belliard!!" when Raffy came to the plate.
HBD 🎂 (10/24/1961) to light-hitting, slick-fielding former #Pittsburgh #Pirates SS Rafael Belliard!
Here’s Raffy, displaying great range & athleticism, making an outstanding grab in foul territory on #Dodgers Mike Scioscia in 1988:

Happy Pythagorean Theorem Day!
10/24/26
10² + 24² = 26²
This is the last one we’ll experience in our lifetime.
My biggest hobby transaction regrets
Traded: 89 Score Barry Sanders (I've started low key searching for an affordable replacement at shows I attend)
Sold: 88 Donruss Barry Bonds with IP autograph. The card was far from pristine, but this was the only time I ever got his sig 😢

Talk about a chase…
An Orioles fan has spent 28 years collecting a ticket from every game of Cal Ripken's 2,632-game streak. He's 8 tickets short. Card shows, eBay, Facebook groups, newspaper ads. Matt Fuller, head of ticket authentication at @PSAcard , points out that it would be impossible today with digital tickets.

To me it’s kind of like Winter Classic in hockey
Great novelty when it started, now overdone
This card is worthy of the @Kards4Smiles name team stack. But it looks like he was wearing his joy on the inside more for this particular photo day.
