Doug Ford is robbing Ontario students of the education they deserve.
Overcrowded classrooms. Rising violence. Burnt-out teachers and education workers. Schools literally crumbling.
Our students, parents, and education workers deserve better.
Tomorrow, people across Ontario are rallying to fight for the future of public education. It’s time to stand up for our schools, educators, and students. #onpoli #onted

At some point the media coverage needs to reflect how far out of touch this Minister and @fordnation education policy actually is. The original 4 boards under supervision were put there because of “financial mismanagement”. Bill 101 moved budget responsibilities to the new CEOs! There is absolutely no current justification for supervision.
This attack on democracy continues to extend ministry centralization, while eliminating both transparency and accountability.
@PaulCalandra and his merry band of patronage appointees have had total control for over 16 months. At what point does this Minister realize that he’s not up to the task? Candidates and voters in these 8 jurisdictions deserve to have the elected trustees sworn in the same day as ALL newly elected trustees.
Bill 101 dramatically reduces trustee impact, the CEO’s option to veto trustee decisions and “not confirm” motions or decisions should be alarming.
Let the public select their representatives and then allow them carry out their duties.
NEW: The Ford government says trustees in supervised school boards “will not be sworn in” immediately after next week's election.
The province is asserting its power to call meetings in eight boards and trustees will only take their oath when the meeting is officially called.
No timeline for when that will happen.

Ontario parents: Did you know that students are permitted to listen to the reading passages on the standardized EQAO Reading assessment?
Read that again.
Students can LISTEN to the text and then answer questions designed to assess their reading comprehension.
So we need to ask an important question:
Are we accurately measuring reading comprehension….or are we potentially inflating what the data tells us about students’ ability to READ?
Reading comprehension requires students to decode the words AND understand the language.
If the text is read aloud, the decoding demand can be bypassed. A student may demonstrate strong language comprehension while still struggling significantly with word reading.
And that distinction matters.
Because when families receive EQAO results indicating that their child has met the provincial standard in reading, do they know that their child may have been permitted to listen to the passage rather than independently read it?
Parents deserve to understand what the assessment measures—and what it may not.
👇 Ontario parents/caregivers: Did you know students could listen to the reading passages on EQAO?
Teachers: What do you think this means for how we interpret Ontario’s reading data? @eqao @ONeducation

These guys spent the last 8 years treating the public purse like their personal piggy bank, and they want the people to prepare for difficult times? That’s rich.
What sacrifices do people have to make for this government’s spending sprees on all the wrong things?

Ottawa hospitals have operating rooms and diagnostic equipment sitting unused while people wait months for care.
The problem isn’t entirely a lack of capacity - it’s a lack of funding and staff to actually use it.
Instead of expanding privatization, Doug Ford needs to properly fund our public hospitals, invest in health care workers and get patients the care they need sooner. #onpoli

With municipal elections coming soon one question I have seen over and over is "why are property taxes so high". Tax 101: We pay property tax to the municipality, provincial and federal tax on income and sales tax on purchases. Your property taxes go to the municipality but...

This is a fun website. If you put in your postal code it will tell you how much the Ford gov't cut from the education budget in your area. Our local school was cut over $500,000 a year or $3000 per student. Put in your postal code and prepare for shock.

This is a great time to remember that all the education unions asked to begin bargaining on March 2nd, with the explicit intent of avoiding labour disruption in the school year.
The Education Minister refused. If there's disruption, it falls on the government.

Hard Truth:
The number of students needing support is growing faster than the number of supports available.
Fact:
Educators across Ontario report increasing academic, behavioural, and mental health needs among students.
Question:
Where should additional funding be prioritized?

The Ford government's $750 classroom gift card gimmick was insulting and admits that our schools are underfunded.
Asking teachers to buy classroom supplies is like asking nurses to shop for medical supplies before work because the hospital can't provide them.
Now we learn that $300 of the promised $750 isn't even new funding - it's being taken from existing education dollars. That's not an investment in public education. It's a shell game.
Ontario students and educators deserve properly funded classrooms, not government announcements that sound bigger than they really are. #onpoli #onted

See a parent sitting quietly at a game?
Often, that’s the one who gets it.
No complaining.
No criticizing coaches.
No yelling at refs.
No drama.
Just watching their kid compete.
Youth sports need more parents like those.
Be part of the solution.

One of the hardest parts of being an educator is the lack of downtime.
You have to be on all day long.
This is mentally and physically draining.
There’s a mom at our school drop-off. Messy bun, always three minutes late, kids usually eating dry cereal out of a Ziploc. The "Pinterest moms" always whispered about her. I honestly felt a little bad for her.
Then one day at the playground, my neurodivergent son had a massive, violent sensory meltdown. I’m sitting in the dirt, crying, totally paralyzed.
The "perfect" moms just stared and pulled their kids away.
Suddenly, she’s there. The messy mom.
She drops her giant bag, sits right in the dirt next to us, pulls a heavy sensory toy out of her purse, and calmly shields my son from the crowd. No panic. No judgment. He regulated in three minutes. I was speechless.
We had coffee after. She told me her house is a disaster and she has severe ADHD, but she knows exactly what a nervous system collapse looks like.
I asked her how she deals with the judgmental stares from the other moms.
She took a sip of her cold coffee and said: "Perfect moms know how to bake organic muffins. Chaotic moms know how to survive the trenches."
Every time I see her running late now, I just smile. Girls, be like the messy mom. Stop apologizing for your chaos.

Early in my career, an associate Dean I admired gave me this advice: don't spend your time trying to change the minds of the ~10% who will never change. We'll turn this math education ship around, but we need to focus our efforts on the educators who are open to changing course.
