Huge news for Blackpool! We’ve officially been shortlisted as one of the final four places in the running to become UK City of Culture 2029!
For generations, Blackpool has known how to put on a show. From world-class events and our iconic Illuminations to our proud seaside heritage and local community arts, Blackpool has proudly entertained the nation. Now, we’re one step away from bringing a huge £10m celebration, new jobs and massive investment to our town.
We're up against Wrexham, Sheffield and Milton Keynes and the judges will be visiting us soon before making their final decision later this winter.
Nearly 30,000 of you have already backed our bid but we need the whole town behind us now!

Wow, how spectacular was Stanley Park’s drone show to celebrate the park’s 100th birthday? Here are some highlights ✨
We are so incredibly proud of our town. Nowhere does it quite like Blackpool ❤️

In the past few years Boeing have taken hits from all quarters. But no matter what you think, this is an astonishing image of a @flydubai aircraft that went well beyond its design limits (30,000 Ft per minute descent rate was reported, a normal rate is about 1500 ft per minute) and held together. That’s robust aviation engineering that Joe Sutter would have been very proud of, and Boeing should be too. Bravo to those off duty pilots who saved the day and landed the aircraft safely in Saudi Arabia.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach officially opens UK’s tallest extreme Gyro Swing.
History was made in Blackpool today. The brand new £8.72m giant gyro swing, Aviktas, launched - and it’s the tallest of its kind in the UK!
Here are some quick facts:
🎢 Aviktas swings to a height of 138ft and reaches angles of 120 degrees
🎢 Riders experience up to four Gs – that’s the same amount as a rocket during take-off!
🎢 The seats are designed to give you that ultimate stomach-drop, weightless feeling.
Would you brave this new giant? Let us know in the comments 👇

Make new friends, but keep the old.
A new photo captures the Moon's near side on the right (the side we see from Earth, identifiable by its dark splotches) and its far side on the left. The Artemis II crew are the first to see the far side with human eyes.

ALT The Moon against the black of space. The right half is heavily marked with darker splotches and craters, including a very large patch that fills most of the upper right quadrant. The left side of the Moon, which is not visible from Earth, is much more uniformly gray. It has small divots and craters, but they do not change the surface color. There is one prominent darker spot between 7 and 8 o'clock on the Moon's surface.
