What do you think? 🤔⛳️🧘‍♀️ To me there are a few things to consider👇  1) Although the research shows minimal to no correlation (sometimes even negative) between mobility and swing speed the populations this research is done on is key. Often these studies look at elite golf populations who are usually under 30. These players will generally move pretty well and so what determines club head speed differential between them probably isn’t range of motion it’s raw strength, explosive qualities and swing mechanics. Would this correlation be different on average club golfers over 50?  2) Not everything needs to be about swing speed! Whilst heavy strength work, jumps, med ball work and speed swings may be the biggest needle movers when it comes to swing speed potential, that doesn’t mean any exercise that doesn’t fit into these categories is a waste of time as some seem to suggest. I would argue how someone moves, how someone feels etc are important qualities even if they don’t impact performance metrics like CHS. 3) A lot of people enjoy doing mobility work. They like seeing their range of motion increase and their body feeling better both on and off the course. Of course training needs to also include strength work, explosive exercises etc and so we don’t want everything to be mobility based but it can certainly be utilised as part of a well rounded plan. Although hard to quantify, stepping onto the first tee and your body “feeling good + free” can really only be beneficial for performance. Someone enjoying and seeing the benefits of a training modality can only be good for long term buy in to fitness.  For a long time in the “golf fitness” space, training was probably too mobility focussed, overly specific and maybe almost “glorified rehab” 😫 That is definitely changing but that doesn’t mean these things can’t be included in programmes and that every exercise that isn’t a heavy compound, loaded jump or med ball slam is pointless 🤷‍♂️

If anyone knows this guy please share details. He broke into my teaching studio yesterday afternoon at 16.35 and stole two Sony a630 cameras and a few other bits.

What can YOU LEARN from how the latest PGA Tour winner Thomas Detry trains? 🤔⛳️🏆 Let me break down 7 moves and why this training is so good 💪🤓 Clips from DubaiGolfFitness on Insta 🎥 1️⃣ - Trap Bar Deadlifts If you follow me you will know this is a staple of my work with golfers! Great way to improve strength through the lower body, back and grip which are all very useful attributes for golf! A powerful swing starts from the ground up!

This does not mean everything must simultaneously target both components. There can be value in isolating 1 to provide adequate overload For example, by overloading “general” gym exercises , we can drive adaptations that ⬆️component 1 while setting the stage to ⬆️ component 2
The “racecar analogy” for describing the role of general, special, and specific training for golfers. This table was inspired by a table from Young (2006) in relation to transfer of training to sprinting. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1911…

As speed increases, it's interesting to see what the minimum speeds are while still being an above average player on the PGA Tour. The figure shows average ball speed for all positive strokes gained players, with the lowest ball speed among the + strokes gained players in blue.

Golf is a phsycially vigourous sport. This is why as a PT I see so many golfers presenting with aches & pains. The most common injury mechanism for these aches & pains is overuse. The evidence shows us that overuse injuries can be reduced significantly with resistance training
