Some background on this footage. I think police swept in because they were desperate to get an arrest on camera. By this stage, several hours in, they’d arrested maybe 50 people. Unfortunately, they tackled her just as she’d finished telling me about her grandparents’ and father’s experiences of the holocaust. It was an incredibly jarring and utterly grotesque moment
The moment, mid-interview, that the daughter of a Holocaust survivor is arrested for protesting the proscription of Palestine Action.

🇸🇩 🇦🇪 Hillary Clinton and UAE Minister of State Noura Al Kaabi took the stage together at a Forbes women's leadership summit in New York last week, in a conversation moderated by Clinton's longtime aide Huma Abedin. The event celebrated Emirati women's leadership as the UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) wage a campaign of mass rape and genocide in Sudan. The Forbes 30/50 Summit is chaired by MS NOW host Mika Brzezinski, with Experience Abu Dhabi, the emirate's state tourism arm, as host partner. Sudan did not come up at all in the half hour long conversation. Instead, Al Kaabi described the UAE as a victim of "a war that we didn't choose," referring to the US-Israeli war on Iran, then said life at home is "wonderful," adding, "We're back to business” as she promoted December's opening of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. She also warned that "extremism starts with hate speeches... with people starting to separate colors, religions, backgrounds." The UAE’s RSF militia has targeted non-Arab communities in Darfur by ethnicity in mass ethnic cleansing massacres. Clinton praised the UAE for holding its society together, and Brzezinski closed by calling the pair "two of the most accomplished women in the world." Monday marks one year since the RSF overran El Fasher in North Darfur, slaughtering civilians in the streets, in hospitals and as they fled. The UN documented at least 6,000 killed in the first three days and found "hallmarks of genocide." Academics put the toll at more than 60,000 in three weeks, and leading researchers estimate as many as 150,000 residents killed and unaccounted for. UN investigators found RSF commanders ordered rape and killings, and UN experts have extensively documented the UAE of arming and funding the RSF. Clinton said the U.S. must stop "putting our personal financial interests first" and pick leaders "with integrity." Days after the summit, the UAE nominated its envoy to the UN, Lana Nusseibeh, for UN Secretary-General.

Beyond a joke. ‘Act earlier’ — to do UAE-backed genocide in Sudan. ‘Bring people together’ — to slaughter them. The UN is useless, but better impotent than headed by a state that armed mass murder in Sudan, and rubber-stamped it in Gaza
I am standing to be Secretary-General because I believe this is a moment to act with greater urgency: to act earlier, bring people together across difference, and drive the work forward until it produces concrete results. That is how we rebuild trust in the United Nations and ensure it delivers meaningful change for the people it exists to serve. My vision: lananusseibeh.org

Pals at @DropSiteNews as eagle-eyed as ever here. I say, come for El Akkad's new view on the limits of pacifism, stay for his red hot take on US democracy: merely picking "whoever is going to hurt us less"
Omar El Akkad, author of One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This, tells Novara Media why he believes he has no right to dictate how people resist occupation. He also says he is certain that “Palestine will be free,” because colonialism requires its perpetrators to “get up every morning and tell yourself a lie,” something he believes is ultimately unsustainable.

Had the honour of interviewing @omarelakkad for @novaramedia's Downstream, out now. As in his book 'One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This', Omar is profoundly eloquent and complex in his though and feeling. He's also full of surprises. It makes for a gripping interview I think -- and also among the most intense 2 hours of my working life!

One year before you can vote on motions; two before you can table them; expel anyone who says they don’t care about electoral success. Simple as.

I’m for maximal democracy in political parties. That’s not the same as maximum. Any party that seeks to govern needs technocratic sense too. It’s impossible to win elections when groups of members who don’t know the difference between rhetoric, ideology and policy set strategy

Some polling here suggests, contrary to the views of some vocal members, that the *most* attractive feature of the Greens in H&STP was, in fact, Polanski’s framing of the party as pressuring Labour from the left on material policies: housing, wealth inequality etc
NEW: What happened in Holborn? Some constituency polling to help us understand a bit more. TLDR: loyalty to Burnham + a local candidate won the day; no real sign of tactical voting; Greens never convinced ppl they could win but Polanski not toxic necessarily. @Persuasion_UK

Replying to @AyoCaesar
@AyoCaesar, @AaronBastani and @MichaelJSWalker will be live-streaming a Holborn & St Pancras byelection special from 9.45pm tonight. Will Zack Polanski take Keir Starmer's old seat, in what would be the Green party's biggest challenge to Labour yet? Or will Labour's Sagal Abdi-Wali, the Camden council leader and a Starmer ally, crush the Greens' hopes of electoral success? Tune in for analysis, special guests and news from the count: youtube.com/watch?v=9UeH93ny…

"They are f*cking aroused by private developers." Today, voters in Holborn and St Pancras will decide if they want Green party leader Zack Polanski as their new MP – or Labour's Sagal Abdi-Wali, the leader of Camden council, the London borough in which the constituency falls. But sources have told Novara Media that it is a stronghold for the Labour right, characterised by purges of dissenters, cosiness to corporate interests and a lack of vision. Read the full feature from @StevenJMethven on what's been described as ground-zero for Starmerism: novara.media/4rOwAX2

Flávio Bolsonaro finished ahead of Lula in Brazil’s first round of the presidential election, aided by US intervention and an overly cautious Workers’ Party. To win the runoff, Lula needs to give working people a reason to hope. jacobin.com/2026/10/brazil-e…

Following campaigns involving financial scandal, accusations of US interference and gymaxxing social vids, neither Lula nor Flávio Bolsonaro gained enough votes to win Brazil's presidential election outright. With a run-off set for later this month, I ask: who comes next if South America's greatest living leftist loses? Link👇

Great show tonight! Today was, in large part, because of Greens. Their rise killed the idea Labour could take left for granted. Now Burnham is PM. Which is why even a left wing Labour member should want, at least, a tight race in Holborn & St Pancras. youtu.be/seTE3Rl6OEM?is=E3hq…
