A little learning, a lot of exploring, and some friendly rivalry!
Our two Master of Public Administration cohorts spent the day at the Imbuto Hub by @imbutofoundation, stepping away from the classroom for shared activities, fun games, and a football face-off.
A change of scenery, a little competition, and a chance to get to know each other beyond the lecture hall.

Happy Independence Day, Uganda! 🇺🇬
At ASG, we celebrate the Ugandan voices in our community and the role they play in shaping Africa’s future.

This week @ASG_Africa welcomed 104 Africans from 16 countries for the first cohort of our Executive Master of Leadership and Governance.
One asked what success looks like for this class. For me, it is that they all complete it, despite their busy schedules. Wishing them luck!

Earlier today, ASG staff and students joined citizens and public sector representatives from @RwandaHealth and @RwandaYouthArts for Umuganda, Rwanda’s monthly community service initiative.
It was a meaningful opportunity for students to move from learning about service to living it out in the community.

35 years ago, I came to Canada as a student.
This week I returned to see partners and friends of @ASG_Africa. I met High Commissioner, @higiro_prosper and the African Diplomatic Corps, renewed our partnership with @Carleton_U, and spoke with young leaders @ReachAllianceTO & @UofT
The course unit that challenges our preconceived perceptions, our point of views, and purposes us to envision a future where we're conquerors and drivers of change but not as partakers or consumers of whatever comes our way. The history of the future is not just an imagination but a creation. It's not merely a story to tell, but we must be part of it. We have to own the story, as conquerors and Victorors, but not as just partakers and participants. If it's not ours, it then against us.
What will Africa look like 100 years from now?
It is a question that continues to shape Prof. @TKPooe7's work today.
As a Professor of Strategic Foresight and Anticipatory Governance, he looks at Africa’s future through two critical lenses: how we steward our natural resources and how we harness our human potential.
And he is calling on young people to help shape what comes next. “Not only because they’re young but also because of the vision they are having.”
If I said it is well, the mouth would be contrary to what is deem in your people's heavy hearts.
If the hymn is sung, more tears would flow on your people's cheeks, like the mountain of the rain.
Omukama Oyo, fare thee well.
Your noble spirit casts a guiding spell.
In robes of blue beneath the fading sun, Your journey shines like gold when day is done.
Fare thee well, Omukama. Rest in grace,
May peace and honour bless your sacred palace.
Though mountains hide you from our earthly sight,
Your name shall live in hearts like morning light.
Omukama Oyo, fare thee well.

Thanks for the wisdom, council and guidance.
Most leadership training teaches people to fix systems. Far less asks how a society repairs itself once the systems have failed.
Rev. Dr. Antoine Rutayisire has spent his life on that harder question. He joins ASG as Professor of Practical Leadership and Management for Results, challenging students to see leadership as competence, character, and a responsibility to create meaningful change.

Africa has what it needs. But what will we do about it?
At #MindsetReset2026, @ProfPLOLumumba called for a shift from dependence to self-reliance, urging us to look within the continent for solutions to the challenges we face.
In this shift, Africa’s youth have a crucial role to play. “You are living at a time when it is the best of times and the worst of times. It depends on what you do about it.”
Africa’s future will not be shaped by what we have, but by what we choose to do with it.

That nagging pain that feels like you were family. Memories from a distance that feel like you were so close. Royalty that came with unusual humility and low profile. No drama, no harm, no noise - just human.

While the #MindsetReset2026 was taking shape, we were also welcoming our second MPA cohort. 65 students (33 women) from 15 countries, three days of orientation.
Guests came to speak plainly about what public service asks of a person.
H.E. @KalondoMonica : "There are things no one prepares you for in the public sector, because there are a lot of grey areas. There are things you must be prepared not to do, even if it means being fired. But you must keep a paper trail to protect yourself from possible accusations."
Welcome to ASG. Stay with us for more updates across the week
It's day 2 of the @ASG_Africa signature Mindset Reset Forum in Kigali, and the energy in the room says it all. Elders and young leaders in real dialogue, creators carrying the ideas across Africa. We close later today, but the reset has just begun. #MindsetReset2026 #AfricaResets
Africa can change. Change is possible. But when they ask for those who believed and acted, will your name be the answer?

Institutions alone cannot drive the lasting change we want to see on the continent because that change begins with individuals.
For our co-Founder, H.E. @HMDessalegn , this is a generational responsibility to help shape the leaders that will carry Africa forward because “If we don’t cultivate a critical mass of future leaders, we cannot change Africa."

Day 2 of the Africa Mindset Reset Forum began with the @ASG_Africa Partnership Breakfast, attended by Ms Monica Geingos.
The discussion looked beyond the familiar question of how Africa identifies and trains talented young leaders. The more difficult question is what happens to them once they enter government, politics and public institutions. Many arrive with strong ideas and a real desire to contribute, only to encounter systems shaped by bureaucracy, political pressure and institutional habits that are difficult to shift.
ASG President Mr Francis Gatare spoke about the African School of Governance’s role in preparing a new generation of African leaders. But the conversation made clear that preparation cannot end with a fellowship or a convening. There has to be a clearer bridge between leadership development and the institutions in which that leadership is expected to matter.
